BMW 2 Series ADAS Calibration

The BMW 2 Series exists as two completely different cars – and each one positions its ADAS sensors differently. The 2 Series Active Tourer (U06, 2022+) is a front-wheel-drive family car on the FAAR platform, sharing sensor architecture with the 1 Series. The 2 Series Coupé (G42, 2022+) is a rear-wheel-drive sports car on BMW's CLAR platform, sharing its layout with the 3 Series. If your 2 Series needs ADAS calibration, the generation and body style determine which sensors are affected.

ADAS Sensors on Your BMW 2 Series

2 Series Active Tourer (U06, 2022+): Built on FAAR – the same platform as the 1 Series and iX1. Driving Assistant is standard:

  • Front Collision Warning + AEB – forward camera behind the windscreen, front radar integrated into the kidney grille.
  • Lane Departure Warning – camera-based, with steering wheel vibration alerts.
  • Speed Limit Info – camera reads road signs and displays limits on the instrument cluster.

Driving Assistant Professional (optional, common on xLine and M Sport trims) adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go and Lane Change Assistant with side radar units behind the rear bumper.

2 Series Coupé (G42, 2022+): Built on BMW's CLAR rear-wheel-drive platform. Same ADAS systems available, but the longer bonnet and different front-end geometry position the grille-mounted radar further from low-speed impact zones than the Active Tourer. Driving Assistant Professional is more frequently specified on the Coupé, particularly on M240i and M2 variants.

Previous generation (F22/F45, 2014–2021): Driving Assistant was optional on both the F22 Coupé and F45 Active Tourer. Many base models lack ADAS entirely. Where fitted, the radar sits behind the lower grille and the camera is windscreen-mounted.

When Your BMW 2 Series Needs ADAS Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

Both body styles mount the forward camera directly to the windscreen. Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, and emergency braking all depend on this camera. If your windscreen was replaced and Driving Assistant warnings appeared immediately after, the camera needs recalibrating.

Front Bumper Repair on the Active Tourer

The Active Tourer's compact front overhang puts its kidney grille at the height of supermarket bollards and child-seat trolleys. A nudge that barely marks the bumper can shift the radar enough to deactivate Active Cruise Control. Radar calibration restores it.

Post-Collision on the Coupé

M240i and M2 models often carry Driving Assistant Professional with multiple radar modules. A front-end collision can disturb both the grille radar and the windscreen camera simultaneously – if multiple Driving Assistant faults appear after accident repair, a single calibration session can address all sensors.

BMW 2 Series ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BMW 2 Series

Both the Active Tourer and Coupé offer Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Professional, but they sit on different platforms — FAAR for the Active Tourer, CLAR for the Coupé. The sensor types are the same, but their physical positions differ. Our technicians calibrate both using manufacturer-approved targeting equipment at any of our 70+ workshops.
