BMW i4 ADAS Calibration

You've collected your BMW i4 from the windscreen company – new glass fitted, but Driving Assistant is showing a fault and Lane Departure Warning won't engage. The i4's forward-facing camera sits directly on the windscreen, and many providers can't complete the BMW-specific calibration after replacement. That's exactly where we come in: OEM-grade static calibration at 70+ workshops across the UK, with fixed pricing and no surprises.

ADAS Systems on the BMW i4

The i4 (G26, 2021+) is BMW's electric gran coupé, and its ADAS hardware is comprehensive:

Driving Assistant (standard):

  • Front Collision Warning + AEB – forward camera behind windscreen plus front radar behind the lower bumper intake. The i4's low nose profile positions the radar lower than on BMW SUVs.
  • Lane Departure Warning – camera-based lane tracking with steering wheel vibration alert.
  • Speed Limit Info – camera reads road signs and displays limits on the head-up display.

Driving Assistant Professional (optional, common on eDrive40 and M50):

  • Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go – radar-based speed matching, integrated with the i4's smooth single-pedal driving experience.
  • Lane Change Assistant – side radar sensors behind the rear bumper panels detect adjacent traffic.
  • Highway Assistant – semi-autonomous motorway driving combining all sensors.

The front radar is positioned behind the lower front bumper grille – lower than combustion BMWs due to the i4's aerodynamic design. This means kerb impacts and low-speed parking collisions can reach the radar even when the main bumper looks undamaged.

Common BMW i4 ADAS Issues

After Windscreen Replacement

The i4's most common calibration trigger. The forward camera handles multiple systems simultaneously, and windscreen companies that fit the glass often can't complete the BMW camera calibration. If your i4 shows Driving Assistant faults immediately after a windscreen swap, the camera needs static recalibration.

Low-Speed Bumper Contact

The i4's radar sits behind the lower front intake – a position that's closer to ground level than traditional BMW models. Car park kerbs, speed bumps at the wrong angle, and low bollards can contact this area without visibly damaging the main bumper. If Active Cruise Control drops out with no obvious cause, the lower radar position is likely why.

Post-Collision Multi-System Faults

A front-end collision on the i4 can knock out the forward camera and front radar simultaneously, disabling Driving Assistant, Active Cruise Control, and Lane Departure Warning in one event. Our collision calibration covers the radar realignment, and windscreen calibration handles the camera if the glass was also replaced.

BMW i4 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BMW i4

Yes. Most windscreen providers lack the BMW-specific calibration targets and diagnostic software needed for the i4's camera system. We use OEM-grade equipment and manufacturer-approved calibration procedures at 70+ workshops. This is our most common BMW i4 request.
