My BMW X6 has Night Vision — does that need calibration after grille work?

Yes. The Night Vision thermal camera sits behind the kidney grille alongside the front radar. Any grille, bumper, or front-end work means both need checking and recalibration.

Can you calibrate the X6's Lane Change Assistant after a rear bumper repair?

Yes. The side radar sensors in the rear bumper need recalibration after rear-end repair or bumper replacement on your BMW X6. This is covered under our Collision Calibration or Full System Reset.

BMW X6 ADAS Calibration — From £199

BMW X6 ADAS Calibration

Built on the same platform as the X5, the BMW X6 (G06) carries an identical ADAS sensor suite – but its coupe-SUV body changes calibration geometry. The sloping rear roofline affects the rear surround-view camera position, and the lower height compared to the X5 means calibration targets must be positioned for the X6's specific ride height.

ADAS Systems on the BMW X6

G06 (2019+) – Current Generation

The G06 X6 shares its complete ADAS hardware with the G05 X5. Most UK-spec X6 models come well-equipped:

Driving Assistant Professional (standard on most UK trims) – Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Front Collision Warning, AEB, Lane Departure Warning, Lane Change Assistant, and Highway Assistant.
Front radar – behind the kidney grille, measuring distance and closing speed.
Forward camera – windscreen-mounted, handling lane tracking, traffic sign recognition, and AEB.
Side radar sensors – behind the rear bumper for blind spot detection and Lane Change Assistant.
Parking Assistant Plus – 12 ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras.

Optional Night Vision – thermal imaging camera behind the kidney grille, the same unit found on the X5. If fitted, it requires recalibration after any grille or front-end work.

F16 (2014–2019) – Previous Generation

The F16 offered Driving Assistant as an option. ACC radar sits behind the lower bumper grille. The full Professional package was less commonly specified than on the G06.

When Your BMW X6 Needs Recalibration

After Collision or Front-End Repair

The kidney grille houses the long-range radar and potentially Night Vision. Even cosmetic grille work can shift the radar mounting. When ACC or Front Collision Warning deactivates after front-end repair, professional radar calibration is needed.

Windscreen Replacement

After glass replacement, windscreen calibration realigns the forward camera. The X6's coupe roofline gives it a different windscreen rake than the upright X5, so model-specific target positioning is essential.

Mirror Replacement or Side Panel Repairs

The surround-view cameras sit in the door mirrors and bodywork. Mirror replacements require the affected camera to be recalibrated so the overhead image remains accurate.
