What is FCTA on the BYD Seal?

Front Cross Traffic Alert warns you of vehicles crossing ahead at junctions — it uses the front radar and camera to detect traffic you may not see. If the Seal's front sensors are misaligned after bumper repair, FCTA accuracy is compromised alongside ICC and AEB. All three systems are restored during a single radar calibration appointment.

My Seal's AEB stopped working — is it the radar or the camera?

BYD's AEB uses both the front radar and windscreen camera together. If AEB failed after a bumper repair, the radar is the likely cause. If it failed after a windscreen replacement, the camera needs recalibration. If both systems show faults, a Collision Calibration at £349 addresses the complete front sensor array. The BYD Seal is a performance-oriented sports sedan with BYD's Cell-to-Body technology – and every driver assistance system relies on proprietary sensors that BYD designs and manufactures in-house. If your Seal's Intelligent Cruise Control or Blind Spot Detection stopped working after a collision repair, generic calibration tools are unlikely to resolve the fault.

The Seal's sports sedan profile gives it a low, aerodynamic front end. The front radar is integrated into the bumper area – and the low ride height means the radar sits closer to impact zones than on BYD's SUV models.

Common Calibration Triggers for the BYD Seal

Bumper damage from the low ride height: The Seal's sports sedan stance puts the front bumper at a height vulnerable to speed bumps, parking barriers, and kerb strikes. The front radar powering ICC and AEB is directly affected. If adaptive cruise has stopped responding after bodywork, the radar needs recalibration.

Windscreen replacement: The forward camera handles LKA, LDW, TSR, and FCTA simultaneously. A windscreen replacement on the Seal affects four systems at once – recalibration is mandatory before any of them function again.

Side panel or rear bumper repairs: The Seal's RCTB actively brakes when reversing into danger. Rear bumper work that displaces the rear sensors creates a safety-critical miscalibration. BSD sensors in the rear quarters are also vulnerable to side panel repairs.
