The Seal U DM-i uses BYD's proprietary sensor hardware with the DiPilot package:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) – dual-input from front radar and windscreen camera
  • Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) – radar-based adaptive cruise, sensor behind the front bumper
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – camera-based, mounted behind the rearview mirror
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) – rear-quarter sensors for lane-change warnings
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) – detects approaching vehicles when reversing
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – forward camera reads speed limit signs
  • 360° Surround View Camera – four cameras for bird's-eye parking view

As a hybrid model, the Seal U DM-i shares the same ADAS sensor architecture as BYD's pure electric range. The plug-in hybrid drivetrain does not change the calibration process – the sensors and their positions are consistent with the e-Platform architecture.

Why Your Seal U DM-i Might Need ADAS Calibration

After windscreen replacement: The forward camera controls LKA, LDW, and TSR on the Seal U DM-i. A new windscreen shifts the camera alignment – recalibration is mandatory before these systems function correctly again.

After front bumper repair: The SUV profile of the Seal U DM-i puts the front bumper at a height where car park collisions and minor front-end impacts are common. The radar behind the bumper powers ICC and AEB – any bumper work that involves removal and refitting requires recalibration.

After rear-end bodywork: BSD sensors in the rear quarters and RCTA sensors in the rear bumper are affected by rear-end repairs. If Blind Spot Detection is giving false alerts or no alerts at all after body shop work, the sensors need realignment.
