BYD Tang ADAS Calibration

The BYD Tang is a seven-seat electric SUV – the largest vehicle in BYD's UK range, carrying families and their expectations of safety systems that work correctly. If your Tang's Automatic Emergency Braking or Intelligent Cruise Control has flagged a fault after bodywork, BYD's proprietary sensors need recalibrating with specialist equipment that most garages do not carry.

ADAS Systems on Your BYD Tang

The Tang is BYD's flagship SUV with the full DiPilot suite:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) – front radar and camera detecting vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists at speeds up to 100 km/h
  • Intelligent Cruise Control (ICC) – adaptive cruise using the front millimetre-wave radar behind the bumper
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) and Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – windscreen camera behind the rearview mirror
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) – rear-quarter sensors for lane-change monitoring
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) and Rear Cross Traffic Brake (RCTB) – active braking when reversing into oncoming traffic
  • 360° Surround View Camera – four exterior cameras for bird's-eye parking, particularly useful for a vehicle of this size
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – forward camera reading speed limits
  • Driver Fatigue Monitoring – interior camera watching for signs of drowsiness

The Tang's larger body means more sensors distributed across a bigger surface area. The 360° camera system is especially important on a seven-seat SUV where parking visibility is limited.

Common Calibration Triggers for the BYD Tang

Front bumper repair on a large SUV: The Tang's front bumper covers a wider area than BYD's smaller models. The radar behind the bumper powers ICC and AEB – collision repairs, parking impacts, or bumper replacements all require radar recalibration.

Windscreen replacement: The Tang's large windscreen houses the forward camera behind the rearview mirror. A new windscreen shifts the camera angle, disabling LKA, LDW, and TSR until recalibrated.

Rear bumper work on a family SUV: The Tang's rear bumper houses RCTA and RCTB sensors. For a seven-seat family vehicle, rear sensor accuracy during reversing manoeuvres is critical. Any rear-end repair requires sensor recalibration to ensure RCTB intervenes correctly.

BYD Tang ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BYD Tang

Yes. The four cameras are positioned around the body — front, rear, and both sides. If any panel near a camera mount has been repaired, the bird's-eye view will show misaligned stitching. On a seven-seat SUV where parking visibility is already limited, accurate surround-view calibration is essential.
