Ford Mustang ADAS Calibration

A sports car with a 5.0-litre V8 might not be the first vehicle you associate with ADAS – but the Ford Mustang (S550, 2015+) carries Pre-Collision Assist, Adaptive Cruise Control, and BLIS as standard on UK models. The Mustang's unique long-bonnet, low-stance design places the forward radar lower and at a different angle than Ford's SUVs and hatchbacks, which means generic calibration assumptions from other Ford models don't apply.

ADAS on the Ford Mustang

The Mustang S550 (2015–2023) and S650 (2024+) have a tailored Co-Pilot360 configuration reflecting the car's sports car layout:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with AEB – forward camera and radar detect vehicles ahead. The radar sits behind the lower front grille – not behind the Ford badge as on the Focus or Kuga. The Mustang's low nose positions the sensor closer to ground level than any other Ford.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – radar-based. Available on GT Premium and higher trims on the S550. Standard on the S650.
  • Lane-Keeping System – windscreen-mounted camera. Provides lane departure warning and, on post-2019 models, active steering correction.
  • BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert – rear bumper radar sensors for blind spot monitoring. Particularly relevant given the Mustang's limited rear visibility from the fastback body.
  • Reverse Sensing System – ultrasonic rear sensors assist with parking.

The Mustang's low, wide stance and long bonnet mean the forward radar's mounting height and angle are specific to this chassis. Body shops accustomed to calibrating Ford SUVs or hatchbacks need model-specific target positioning for the Mustang.

Why Your Ford Mustang Might Need Calibration

After front bumper or splitter work

The Mustang's radar sits behind the lower grille, closer to ground level than other Fords. Bumper replacements, front splitter modifications, or aftermarket grille upgrades all risk shifting the sensor. Pre-Collision Assist and ACC both go offline until radar recalibration restores alignment.

After windscreen replacement

The forward camera behind the rearview mirror controls Lane-Keeping and Traffic Sign Recognition. The Mustang's raked windscreen angle affects camera calibration parameters – if your windscreen fitter couldn't complete the calibration, we handle it at our workshops nationwide.

Ford Mustang ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ford Mustang

No. Most Ford models mount the radar behind the front badge. The Mustang's radar sits lower, behind the lower front grille, because of the car's sports car profile. This means calibration requires Mustang-specific target positioning — our IMI-certified technicians handle this at 70+ workshops.
