Ford Ranger ADAS Calibration

Pickup trucks take punishment that no hatchback ever sees – stone strikes on construction sites, overhanging branches knocking sensors, and front-end damage from off-road use. The Ford Ranger (2019+) carries Pre-Collision Assist and Adaptive Cruise Control with sensors exposed to exactly these conditions. If your Ranger's ADAS warnings appeared after rough use or a repair, the sensors need recalibrating – not replacing.

ADAS Systems on the Ford Ranger

The Ranger (2019+ facelift and 2023 next-generation) carries a robust ADAS setup for a vehicle that splits time between motorway commuting and job sites:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with AEB – forward camera and radar detect vehicles and pedestrians. The radar mounts behind the front grille, sitting higher than on passenger Fords due to the Ranger's elevated ride height.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – available on Wildtrak and Limited trims. Uses the front radar for distance keeping.
  • Lane-Keeping Alert – windscreen-mounted camera tracks lane markings. The Ranger's taller windscreen angle means a different calibration profile than a Focus or Kuga.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition – reads speed signs via the forward camera.
  • Rear-view camera – mounted on the tailgate, vulnerable to damage during loading or towing.

The next-generation Ranger (2023+) adds BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert. Earlier Rangers (pre-2019) have minimal ADAS – mainly rear parking sensors.

Key difference from other Fords: The Ranger's sensors sit higher and more exposed than on passenger cars. Off-road use and towing also expose rear sensors to damage that passenger Fords rarely encounter.

Why Your Ford Ranger Might Need ADAS Calibration

After off-road use or site work

The Ranger's elevated grille means the radar takes stone impacts that would miss a car's bumper. Heavy off-road use can gradually shift radar alignment without visible damage. If Pre-Collision Assist or ACC becomes intermittent after rough use, radar recalibration is the likely fix.

After bumper or bull bar modification

Many Ranger owners fit aftermarket bull bars or winch bumpers that can obstruct the factory radar. If ADAS warnings appeared after fitting accessories, the radar needs recalibrating. Body shops repairing collision damage should also account for ADAS recalibration before returning the vehicle.

Ford Ranger ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ford Ranger

Yes. Bull bars and light bars fitted in front of the grille can obstruct the forward radar signal. Some aftermarket bars have radar-compatible cutouts, but many do not. If Pre-Collision Assist or ACC stopped working after fitting accessories, the radar needs recalibrating. See all Ford models.
