Ford Transit ADAS Calibration

The full-size Ford Transit is a different calibration challenge to any passenger car – a tall body, a higher-mounted windscreen, and sensors that sit in positions exposed to commercial loading environments. Fleet operators and body shops dealing with Transit repairs need to know: if the bumper was removed or the windscreen replaced, ADAS calibration is almost certainly required before the van goes back into service.

ADAS Systems on the Ford Transit

The full-size Transit (2019+ facelift) carries Ford's commercial vehicle ADAS package, similar to the Transit Custom but adapted for the larger body:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with AEB and Pedestrian Detection – forward camera and radar detect hazards. The radar mounts behind the Ford badge on the front grille, sitting higher than on passenger cars due to the van's elevated front end.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – available on higher-spec models. Uses the front radar for motorway distance management.
  • Lane-Keeping Alert – windscreen camera tracks lane markings. The Transit's tall, near-vertical windscreen requires Transit-specific calibration parameters.
  • Side Wind Stabilisation – uses sensor data to apply corrective braking against crosswinds hitting the Transit's large side panels.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition – reads speed limits via the forward camera.

The Transit is available as panel van, chassis cab, minibus, and motorhome conversion base. Motorhome conversions can displace original sensor positions during the build process.

Key difference from the Transit Custom: The full-size Transit is taller and wider, with a different front-end profile. The radar and camera sit higher, and the near-vertical windscreen changes calibration angles. Body shops should not assume Transit Custom procedures apply to the full-size Transit.

Common ADAS Triggers for Transit Owners

After body shop or fleet depot repairs

Full-size Transits cycle through body shops constantly – loading bay collisions, height-restriction strikes, and reversing incidents are routine for fleet operators. Any repair involving the front bumper, grille, or windscreen requires ADAS recalibration. Our collision calibration covers multi-sensor recalibration with certificates for fleet compliance.

Motorhome conversions and aftermarket builds

Transit-based motorhomes and specialist conversions often disturb original sensor positions. If Pre-Collision Assist or Lane-Keeping stopped working after a conversion, the sensors likely need recalibrating for the modified body – our phantom braking guide covers a related issue common to large converted vehicles.

Ford Transit ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ford Transit

Yes. The Transit and Transit Custom share similar ADAS systems, but the full-size Transit's taller body, higher sensor positions, and near-vertical windscreen require different calibration parameters. Technicians must account for the Transit-specific camera angle and radar height. See all Ford models.
