Ford Transit Custom ADAS Calibration

The Transit Custom is the UK's best-selling van – and body shops send us more commercial Ford calibrations than any other single model. Fleet vehicles take front-end knocks in depots, car parks, and on delivery runs. When Pre-Collision Assist goes down after a bumper repair, the van stays off the road until the radar is recalibrated. We get it done at 70+ workshops so your fleet stays moving.

"Front Camera malfunction – service required" is the specific dashboard message Transit Custom drivers call us about most. It appears after a windscreen replacement, a front-end bump, or any work that disturbs the camera bracket behind the rearview mirror. The message will not clear until the camera is professionally recalibrated – a software reset will not fix it.

ADAS Systems on the Ford Transit Custom

The Transit Custom (2019+) comes with Ford's commercial-grade ADAS package:

  • Pre-Collision Assist with Pedestrian Detection – the forward radar and camera detect vehicles and pedestrians. On the Transit Custom, the radar sits behind the Ford badge on the front grille. Commercial environments (loading bays, narrow lanes) make pedestrian detection critical.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – available on higher-spec models. Uses the same front-mounted radar as Pre-Collision Assist.
  • Lane-Keeping Alert – windscreen-mounted camera tracks lane markings on motorway and A-road driving. Requires recalibration after any windscreen replacement.
  • BLIS with Cross-Traffic Alert – rear bumper radar sensors. Particularly useful for reversing a long-wheelbase van into tight spaces.

Earlier Transit Custom models (2012–2018) have fewer ADAS systems – typically just rear parking sensors and basic forward alert. The 2019+ facelift introduced the full safety suite, and the 2024 next-generation Transit Custom adds even more sensor coverage.

Common ADAS Triggers for Transit Custom Owners

After body shop repairs

Commercial vehicles cycle through body shops more frequently than passenger cars. A depot collision, loading bay scrape, or rear-end shunt in traffic – any repair involving the front bumper, rear bumper, or windscreen can disturb ADAS sensors. Fleet managers and body shops need a calibration partner who can turn vans around quickly. Our collision calibration covers multi-system recalibration after accident repairs.

Windscreen replacement on commercial vehicles

Transit Custom windscreens take more stone chip damage than most vehicles – A-road and motorway miles add up. If the windscreen was replaced but Lane-Keeping or Pre-Collision Assist isn't working, the camera behind the rearview mirror needs recalibration.

"Fleet Transit Custom owners frequently contact us after body shop repairs – Pre-Collision Assist showing as unavailable is the most common fault, and it's almost always a radar alignment issue from the bumper removal."

Ford Transit Custom ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ford Transit Custom

Yes. Most body shops don't have the OEM-grade equipment for Ford ADAS calibration. After completing the physical repair, send the Transit Custom to one of our workshops for sensor recalibration. We provide documentation for fleet compliance records. Check our ADAS guide for a full explanation of what calibration involves.
