Hyundai i20 ADAS Calibration

Hyundai fits SmartSense to the i20 from the third generation (BC3, 2020+) onwards – making it one of the most affordable cars on the UK market with a full suite of active safety systems. The i20's compact size means the windscreen-mounted camera and front radar are closely integrated into a small front end, and even a minor repair can knock both out of alignment simultaneously.

SmartSense Systems on the Hyundai i20

The third-generation i20 (BC3, 2020+) introduced SmartSense to Hyundai's supermini segment. Earlier second-generation models (GB, 2014–2020) had no ADAS to speak of – no camera, no radar, no calibration requirement.

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) – camera-and-radar AEB covering vehicles and pedestrians. On the i20, FCA does not include the junction-turning or cyclist detection found on larger models like the Tucson.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) – camera-dependent lane departure correction. The i20 uses LKA rather than the more advanced Lane Following Assist found on Hyundai's SUVs.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) – radar-based adaptive cruise with stop-and-go, available on mid and upper trims. Not standard on the base SE trim.
  • High Beam Assist (HBA) – automatic high beam switching using the windscreen camera.
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW) – monitors driving patterns for fatigue. Camera-dependent.

The i20 does not have Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) or Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist – those systems are reserved for Hyundai's SUV and larger car segments. This means the i20's calibration requirements centre on the front radar and windscreen camera only.

When Your i20 Needs ADAS Calibration

After windscreen replacement

The i20's windscreen camera controls FCA, LKA, HBA, and Driver Attention Warning. Because the i20's SmartSense package is more camera-reliant than radar-reliant, a windscreen replacement is the most common calibration trigger. If your glass company replaced the windscreen but couldn't complete the camera calibration, those systems stay offline.

After front bumper repair

The forward radar sits behind the i20's front bumper. On a car this size, car park scrapes and low-speed urban collisions are frequent – and any bumper removal or front-end repair can shift the radar enough for Smart Cruise Control and FCA to deactivate.

Hyundai i20 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Hyundai i20

The third-generation i20 (2020+) has Hyundai SmartSense including Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist, Lane Keeping Assist, and Smart Cruise Control on mid-to-upper trims. Older i20 models (pre-2020) do not have ADAS systems and don't require calibration.
