Hyundai IONIQ 5 ADAS Calibration

The Hyundai IONIQ 5 relies on five external cameras alongside its radar sensors for the SmartSense suite – making it one of the most camera-dependent vehicles in Hyundai's range. Built on the dedicated E-GMP electric platform, the IONIQ 5's sensor layout differs from Hyundai's ICE models, and a windscreen replacement or front-end repair affects more systems simultaneously than on a Tucson or i30.

IONIQ 5 owners frequently arrive after a local garage has confirmed recalibration is needed but could not carry it out. The SmartSense suite on the E-GMP platform requires Hyundai-compatible diagnostic equipment and specific target boards – most independent workshops can identify the fault but not fix it.

SmartSense Systems on the Hyundai IONIQ 5

The IONIQ 5 (NE1, 2021+) launched with Hyundai's most advanced SmartSense configuration. The 2024 facelift added further functionality.

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) 2.0 – uses the forward camera, front radar, and side cameras for vehicle, pedestrian, cyclist, and junction-turning detection. Evasive steering assist on higher trims.
  • Highway Driving Assist (HDA) 2 – semi-autonomous lane centring combining camera and radar. The IONIQ 5's electric architecture allows smoother speed control than ICE models.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go – radar-based, with regenerative braking integration unique to the E-GMP platform.
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA) – active lane centring using the windscreen camera. Works in conjunction with HDA 2.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) – rear-quarter radar with active steering. Also provides the Blind-Spot View Monitor feed to the digital instrument cluster.
  • Surround View Monitor (SVM) – four cameras around the vehicle for 360-degree parking view. Bodywork to any corner can affect camera alignment.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Collision-Avoidance Assist (RCCA) – rear radar with active braking.

E-GMP platform note: The IONIQ 5's flat skateboard chassis places sensors at different heights than Hyundai's conventional platform. The forward radar is integrated into the front bumper lower section rather than behind the emblem. This means bumper repairs require awareness of the different sensor position.

Common ADAS Triggers on the IONIQ 5

After windscreen replacement

The IONIQ 5's windscreen camera controls FCA, LFA, HDA 2, and High Beam Assist. With more systems depending on a single camera than most Hyundai models, a windscreen swap without recalibration leaves multiple safety features offline. Glass companies frequently can't calibrate the IONIQ 5's camera – we complete the job.

Front bumper repair on the E-GMP platform

The IONIQ 5's radar sits lower in the bumper than other Hyundais. Body shops familiar with Tucson or i30 radar positions sometimes miss the E-GMP mounting point. If SCC and FCA deactivated after a bumper repair, the radar needs recalibration at the correct E-GMP height reference.

"If your IONIQ 5 lost Highway Driving Assist and Lane Following Assist after a windscreen replacement, the SmartSense camera needs recalibrating. With this many camera-dependent systems, a single uncalibrated sensor disables most of the driving assistance features."

Hyundai IONIQ 5 Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

The IONIQ 5's camera-dependent setup means windscreen replacement is the most common trigger. Our £199 camera calibration restores FCA, LFA, HDA 2, and High Beam Assist in a single session – no need to book separate appointments for each system.

Hyundai IONIQ 5 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Hyundai IONIQ 5

Yes. The E-GMP platform places the forward radar lower in the bumper than conventional Hyundais, and the IONIQ 5 depends on more cameras than any other Hyundai model. Our technicians are equipped for E-GMP-specific calibration procedures.
