Hyundai Kona ADAS Calibration

The Hyundai Kona packs the full SmartSense suite into a compact SUV body – and both the petrol Kona and the Kona Electric share the same ADAS sensor layout. The forward radar behind the front bumper and the windscreen-mounted camera control everything from Smart Cruise Control to Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist. When either is disturbed, those systems shut down until recalibrated.

SmartSense Systems on the Hyundai Kona

The second-generation Kona (SX2, 2023+) comes with a more comprehensive SmartSense package than the first-generation (OS, 2017–2023). Both generations share the same sensor mounting positions.

  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) – camera plus radar AEB. The SX2 adds cyclist and junction-turning detection not available on the OS.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) – radar-based adaptive cruise. Standard on mid-to-upper trims across both generations.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) – standard from 2020+ on most trims. Camera-dependent.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) – rear-quarter radar. Available on higher trims, with active steering avoidance on the SX2.
  • High Beam Assist (HBA) – camera-dependent automatic high beam switching.

Kona Electric note: The electric Kona uses identical SmartSense hardware. The EV powertrain doesn't change sensor positions or calibration requirements – the radar is still behind the front bumper, the camera still behind the windscreen.

Common ADAS Issues on the Hyundai Kona

After collision or bodywork

The Kona's compact dimensions make front-end parking damage common. The radar behind the bumper is particularly exposed on small SUVs – even a minor nudge in a multi-storey can shift the sensor enough for SCC and FCA to deactivate.

Windscreen replacement on Kona Electric

Kona Electric owners often have windscreens replaced through insurance after stone chip damage. If the replacement company couldn't calibrate the SmartSense camera, Lane Keeping Assist and the camera element of FCA won't work. We complete what they couldn't finish.

"If your Kona's Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist has stopped working after a front bumper repair, the radar sensor behind the Hyundai badge needs recalibrating. The system won't reactivate through a simple dashboard reset – it requires professional alignment to manufacturer tolerances."

Front-end collision repairs on the Kona typically require both radar and camera recalibration. Our collision calibration at £349 covers radar realignment and sensor verification in one visit.

Hyundai Kona ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Hyundai Kona

No. Both versions use the same SmartSense sensor hardware — same radar, same camera, same mounting positions. The calibration process and pricing are identical regardless of powertrain.
