Kia Optima ADAS Calibration

Your Kia Optima's Smart Cruise Control has stopped working after a front bumper repair – the radar sensor behind the Kia emblem needs recalibration. The Optima (2015-2020) was Kia's mid-size saloon before the K5 replaced it, and later models came with a meaningful set of DriveWise features that still require professional calibration after bodywork. ADAS Line handles Optima calibration from £199 at 70+ UK workshops.

DriveWise Systems on the Kia Optima

The Optima (fourth generation, 2015-2020) offered ADAS primarily on higher trim levels – GT-Line and GT-Line S models carried the most complete package. Earlier base trims may have limited or no ADAS:

  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) – radar-based adaptive cruise on GT-Line trims and above. The radar sits behind the front bumper emblem. Not all Optimas have this system.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) – camera and radar-based emergency braking. Standard on higher trims from 2017+.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) – windscreen camera detects lane markings and applies gentle steering correction. Available on mid-to-high trims.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) – rear radar sensors for blind-spot monitoring. Optional or standard on higher specifications.
  • Driver Attention Warning (DAW) – monitors steering patterns for fatigue. Camera-based on later models.

Unlike current Kias, the Optima does not have Highway Driving Assist or Lane Following Assist – those systems came with the newer platform. The Optima's DriveWise is the first generation, with simpler sensor integration but the same calibration precision requirements.

When Your Kia Optima Needs Calibration

After front bumper repair – if your Optima has SCC or FCA, the front radar behind the Kia emblem needs recalibration after any bumper work – replacement, collision repair, or even emblem removal during a respray. Without it, cruise control won't engage and FCA warnings persist.

After windscreen replacement – LKA and the camera component of FCA depend on the windscreen-mounted camera. Every windscreen swap requires camera recalibration to restore lane keeping and collision detection.

After rear bodywork – if your Optima is fitted with BCA, the rear-quarter radar sensors need recalibration after rear bumper replacement or rear-end collision damage. Blind-spot warnings will remain active until the sensors are professionally realigned.

Kia Optima ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Kia Optima

ADAS availability on the Optima depends on trim level and model year. GT-Line and GT-Line S models carry the most systems. If you're unsure, check your dashboard — SCC, FCA, and LKA icons indicate which systems your Optima has. No ADAS icons means no calibration is needed. See all Kia models
