Can I just disable ADAS on my Defender instead of recalibrating?

Does fitting a bull bar or aftermarket bumper affect ADAS?

Yes — if the front bumper was removed during installation, the ACC radar behind the grille likely needs recalibrating. Some aftermarket bumpers also change the physical space around the radar sensor, which can cause signal interference. Is the classic Defender (pre-2020) different?

Front Bumper and Bull Bar Work

Defender owners frequently fit aftermarket bull bars, winch bumpers, or protective grille guards. If the front bumper was removed during installation, the ACC radar behind the grille likely needs recalibrating. Even swapping from one bumper style to another can change the angle the radar sees through. If your cruise control stopped working after fitting accessories, the radar is the first thing to check. Windscreen Replacement After Stone Damage

The Defender's upright windscreen and frequent use on unsurfaced roads makes it more prone to stone chips than most SUVs.
