Mazda 2 ADAS Calibration

The Mazda 2 - known in Japan as the Demio - carries Mazda's i-Activsense suite on UK models from 2015 onwards, including Smart Brake Support (SBS) and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS). These are two distinct systems: SCBS handles low-speed city driving and uses a laser sensor in the windscreen; SBS handles higher-speed collision prevention and uses a separate radar. Windscreen replacement affects the SCBS laser sensor, which must be recalibrated to the new glass.

ADAS Systems on the Mazda 2

Mazda's i-Activsense on the Mazda 2 includes Smart Brake Support (SBS) - a forward radar for higher-speed collision avoidance - and Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) - a laser sensor behind the windscreen for low-speed city collisions. This dual-system split is specific to Mazda and is different from most rivals, which use a single camera or radar for both scenarios.

Mazda Radar Cruise Control (MRCC) is available on higher Mazda 2 trims, adding the front radar into active use for cruise following. Lane-keep Assist System (LAS) and Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) complete the suite on SE-L Nav and GT Sport specifications.

When Does the Mazda 2 Need ADAS Calibration?

  • After windscreen replacement - the SCBS laser sensor is mounted in/behind the windscreen and requires recalibration after any glass change.
  • After front bumper work - the SBS radar behind the front bumper needs realignment after bumper removal.
  • After a front collision - both systems require verification and recalibration.

Mazda 2 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mazda 2

Smart City Brake Support (SCBS) uses a laser sensor for low-speed city collisions — typically under 30mph. Smart Brake Support (SBS) uses a front radar for higher-speed collision avoidance. Both require calibration if disturbed, but through different sensors.
