Mercedes SL ADAS Calibration

The current Mercedes SL is no longer a gentle grand tourer – it's built on the AMG-developed MSA platform with a comprehensive ADAS suite that matches the S-Class in technology. If DISTRONIC or Active Steering Assist has disabled on your SL after bodywork or windscreen replacement, the front radar behind the star badge and the multifunction camera behind the windscreen both need professional recalibration.

ADAS Systems on the Mercedes SL

The current SL (R232, 2022+) was developed entirely by AMG and represents a major technology leap over the previous R231 generation:

  • DISTRONIC – adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go via the front radar behind the star badge. Standard on SL 55 and SL 63.
  • Active Steering Assist – semi-autonomous driving on motorways, combining radar and camera data for lane centring and speed adaptation.
  • Active Brake Assist – automatic emergency braking with pedestrian and cross-traffic detection.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist – camera-based lane detection with active steering correction.
  • Blind Spot Assist with Exit Warning – rear-mounted radar sensors warn of adjacent vehicles and also alert when opening doors into oncoming traffic.
  • PRE-SAFE – pre-collision occupant protection including automatic soft-top closure if a rollover is detected.
  • Traffic Sign Assist – speed limit recognition via the multifunction camera.
  • Active Parking Assist – ultrasonic sensors with 360-degree camera standard.

The previous-generation SL (R231, 2012–2020) has less comprehensive ADAS – primarily DISTRONIC and basic camera systems. It still requires calibration after sensor disturbance but has fewer interconnected systems.

Why Your Mercedes SL Might Need ADAS Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

The SL's multifunction camera behind the windscreen handles Active Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and high beam assist. The R232's fabric soft top means the windscreen is a structural element – replacement requires specialist fitting, and the camera must be recalibrated afterwards.

After Front-End Bodywork

The SL's low, wide front end is susceptible to kerb damage and car park impacts. The radar behind the star badge is positioned lower than on Mercedes SUVs. Bumper repairs, grille replacement, or star badge refitting all risk shifting the radar alignment. Radar calibration restores DISTRONIC and Active Brake Assist.

After Collision Repair

An SL that's been through collision repair needs every ADAS sensor verified. Given the vehicle's value, cutting corners on calibration risks both safety and resale value. Our collision calibration covers front radar, camera, and connected systems with a calibration certificate.

Mercedes SL Calibration Pricing

Mercedes SL ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mercedes SL

The R231 SL (2012–2020) has DISTRONIC and basic camera systems that require calibration after sensor disturbance. However, it lacks Active Steering Assist and some camera-dependent features found on the current R232. We calibrate both generations — contact us with your model year for specific requirements.
