Is the MG5 EV being replaced?

MG has announced updates to its EV lineup, but the MG5 EV remains available. Even if production ends, calibration will be needed for years as these vehicles age and require bodywork repairs. Our equipment and procedures cover the MG5 EV regardless of production status.

Can a regular windscreen fitter calibrate MG Pilot on the MG5?

Most windscreen fitters replace the glass but cannot complete the MG Pilot camera recalibration. MG Pilot requires VDS2 or compatible diagnostic equipment for static camera calibration. If your MG5 EV's MG Pilot has stopped working after one of these events, the Bosch front radar and windscreen camera need professional recalibration.

The MG5 EV (2021+) carries the MG Pilot package:

The MG5 EV includes RCTA and IHBC alongside the standard MG Pilot systems. The estate body shape means a longer rear overhang – the RCTA sensors in the rear bumper have a different exposure profile to SUV models.

Common MG Pilot Triggers on the MG5 EV

After windscreen replacement: The forward camera handles LKA, LDW, ISLA, and IHBC on the MG5 EV. A new windscreen shifts the camera – four systems go offline until recalibrated. This is the most common MG5 EV calibration trigger.

After front bumper repair: The Bosch radar behind the grille powers ACC and AEB. Family estate use means the MG5 sees regular urban driving with frequent parking situations – front bumper contacts are common.

After rear bumper repair: The MG5 EV's estate rear end houses RCTA sensors. Reversing incidents – car parks, driveways, loading situations – can displace these sensors. If RCTA warnings have disappeared after rear bodywork, the sensors need recalibration.
