Nissan Leaf ADAS Calibration

The Nissan Leaf is the UK's longest-established mainstream electric vehicle – and the one EV where ADAS calibration requests consistently involve windscreen camera work rather than radar. The ZE0 and ZE1 generations use different sensor configurations, and the most common trigger we see is a windscreen replacement where the glass company finishes the swap but can't recalibrate the Nissan-specific camera behind the rearview mirror.

ADAS Systems on the Nissan Leaf

ZE0 Leaf (2011–2017): Minimal ADAS. Later production models (2015+) gained basic Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB) using a windscreen-mounted camera only. No adaptive cruise control, no radar. Calibration is limited to the forward camera after windscreen replacement.

ZE1 Leaf (2018–present): Significantly expanded Nissan Intelligent Mobility suite:

  • Intelligent Emergency Braking (IEB) with pedestrian detection – camera-based on standard models, radar + camera on e+ variants
  • ProPILOT Assist – available on Tekna and above, combining adaptive cruise with lane centring using the windscreen camera and front radar
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) and Intelligent Lane Intervention – camera-based
  • Blind Spot Warning (BSW) – rear radar sensors in the quarter panels on higher trims
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA)
  • Intelligent Around View Monitor (AVM) – optional 360-degree camera

On the ZE1, the front radar (where fitted) sits behind the Nissan badge – the same position as the Qashqai and Juke. The forward camera is windscreen-mounted behind the rearview mirror. The Leaf e+ with the 62 kWh battery typically has the fullest sensor suite.

Nissan Leaf – Common Calibration Triggers

Windscreen Replacement on EVs

EV windscreens tend to be larger and more specialised than their ICE counterparts – the Leaf's windscreen incorporates acoustic insulation and solar reflective coatings that affect glass availability and fitting complexity. After replacement, the forward camera must be recalibrated to restore IEB and, on ProPILOT-equipped models, adaptive cruise and lane keeping. If your Leaf's IEB warning appears after a stone chip repair that escalated to a full windscreen replacement, calibration is the necessary follow-up.

Front Bumper Repairs on ZE1 Models

The ZE1 Leaf's front bumper houses the radar sensor behind the badge on models with ProPILOT or the e+ specification. Even minor parking damage that requires bumper removal and refit can shift the radar enough to deactivate adaptive cruise and emergency braking. The Leaf's regenerative braking can mask the absence of IEB for a while – drivers notice the gap only when a genuine emergency situation occurs.

Battery or Drivetrain Service

Unlike petrol cars, the Leaf occasionally needs bumper or underbody panel removal for battery module access during warranty work or thermal management service. If sensors were disconnected or bumper panels disturbed during battery-related repairs, ADAS recalibration ensures the systems come back online correctly.

Nissan Leaf Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

ZE0 Leaf owners with camera-only IEB typically need windscreen calibration at £199 – the simplest and most affordable option. ZE1 models with ProPILOT and front radar may need radar calibration at £349 if bumper work disturbed the sensor behind the badge.

Nissan Leaf ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Nissan Leaf

Later ZE0 Leafs (2015–2017) have Intelligent Emergency Braking using a windscreen camera. Earlier models (2011–2014) don't have ADAS and don't require calibration. If your Leaf has an IEB indicator on the dashboard, it has a calibratable system.
