Polestar 3 ADAS Calibration

The Polestar 3 with the optional Pilot Pack carries a Luminar LiDAR sensor, three additional cameras, and four extra ultrasonic sensors on top of its already substantial baseline suite – making it one of the most sensor-dense production vehicles on UK roads. Built on SPA2, the same platform as the Volvo EX90, it demands model-specific calibration expertise that goes well beyond standard camera-and-radar work.

ADAS Systems on Your Polestar 3

The Polestar 3 uses Volvo's SPA2 (Scalable Product Architecture 2) platform. The standard configuration includes 5 radar modules, 5 external cameras, and 12 ultrasonic sensors. The optional Pilot Pack upgrades this to:

  • Pilot Assist – Level 2+ system with steering, speed, and lane management
  • Collision Avoidance – AEB with multi-sensor fusion including LiDAR on Pilot Pack models
  • Luminar LiDAR (Pilot Pack only) – roof-mounted 1,550nm unit processed by an NVIDIA compute module
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – radar and camera-based, enhanced by LiDAR on equipped models
  • BLIS (Blind Spot Information System) – side radar sensors monitoring adjacent lanes
  • Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) – rear detection when reversing
  • 360° Surround View Camera – multi-camera parking system
  • Road Sign Information (RSI) – camera-based sign recognition
  • Driver Awareness – steering torque and cabin camera monitoring for fatigue

Pilot Pack models total 8 cameras, 5+ radar modules, 16 ultrasonic sensors, plus the Luminar LiDAR – requiring a fundamentally different calibration scope than standard models.

When Your Polestar 3 Needs Recalibration

After Any Body Panel Repair

Cameras are mounted across front, sides, B-pillars, and rear quarters. A side repair can displace two or three camera positions simultaneously. On Pilot Pack models, the LiDAR housing on the roof adds another calibration point. Any collision repair should include a full sensor check.

After Windscreen Replacement

The forward-facing camera behind the windscreen powers Pilot Assist, Collision Avoidance, and RSI. On Pilot Pack models, the LiDAR sits on the roof directly above – windscreen work can potentially affect LiDAR alignment as well.

Pilot Pack LiDAR Displacement

If your Polestar 3 has the Pilot Pack and has undergone any roof repair, hail correction, or roof accessory installation, the Luminar LiDAR may be misaligned. Most UK workshops have no LiDAR calibration experience – we do.
