ADAS Calibration for Smart models

The old Smart ForTwo had parking sensors and not much else. The new Smart #1 scored 96% for Safety Assist in its Euro NCAP test - one of the highest scores of any vehicle on UK roads - packed with Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving, Highway Assist, and Valeo Smart Safety 360 sensor technology. If your body shop still thinks a Smart is a city car with no ADAS, they are about to get a surprise. Calibration for your Smart from £199, at 70+ UK workshops.

Smart ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific Smart model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Every Smart model has different ADAS sensors fitted depending on trim level and year. Share your registration and we’ll confirm exactly which systems need calibration.

What Smart ADAS Calibration Involves

The three most common calibration scenarios for Smart vehicles — each linked to a dedicated service page.

£199 Starting price

Windscreen Camera Recalibration

Every Smart with a forward-facing camera — including models with Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Autonomous Emergency Braking — requires camera recalibration after windscreen replacement. This is the most common Smart ADAS job we carry out.

Radar & Sensor Alignment

Smart models fitted with Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, or Rear Cross Traffic Alert carry radar modules behind the bumper or grille. Any bodywork repair or bumper removal requires sensor recalibration using manufacturer-specific targets and procedures.

Post-Collision Full Check

After any collision repair involving a Smart, multiple ADAS sensors may be disturbed simultaneously — including cameras, radar modules, and parking sensors. A comprehensive post-collision calibration restores every system to factory tolerances and satisfies insurer documentation requirements.

Smart ADAS Systems We Calibrate

New-generation Smart models (#1 and #3) use Valeo Smart Safety 360 - a comprehensive sensor suite powering Smart Pilot Assist, the brand's Level 2+ driving system. Here is how Smart names each system:

  • Smart Pilot Assist - Level 2+ semi-autonomous driving combining ACC, lane centring, and traffic jam handling
  • Highway Assist - motorway-speed ACC with lane centring and Lane Change Assist for assisted overtaking
  • Traffic Jam Assist - handles acceleration, braking, restarting, and steering in congested traffic
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) - forward collision detection and automatic braking
  • Adaptive Cruise Control with Stop & Go - radar-based speed and distance management through traffic queues
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) - corrective steering when drifting without indicating
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) - audible and visual alert when crossing lane markings
  • Lane Change Assist - assisted lane changes on motorways when indicating
  • Blind Spot Detection (BSD) - rear-quarter radar sensors detecting vehicles in adjacent lanes
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) - camera-based speed limit and sign detection
  • 360-Degree Camera - surround-view parking system
  • Automatic Parking Assist - automated parallel and perpendicular parking

The Valeo front camera offers up to 8 megapixels with 100-120 degree field of view, mounted at the top of the windscreen. The front radar sits behind the bumper. Side radars in the rear quarter panels power Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist.

Important distinction: If you own a Smart ForTwo or ForFour (pre-2023), those models used Mercedes-Benz platforms with ultrasonic parking sensors only - no camera or radar ADAS, and no calibration requirement beyond parking sensor setup.

What Triggers Smart ADAS Faults

After Windscreen Replacement

The Valeo Smart Front Camera behind the windscreen powers AEB, Lane Keep Assist, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Highway Assist. When the glass is replaced, the camera must be recalibrated to restore all connected systems. This is the most common trigger for Smart #1 and #3 owners - if your glazier couldn't complete the ADAS calibration, we finish it.

After Bumper Repair or Front-End Collision

The front radar behind the bumper drives ACC and AEB. A bumper replacement, front-end repair, or even bumper removal for access to other components shifts the radar alignment. Smart Pilot Assist and Highway Assist both rely on this radar - a single millimetre of offset disables them.

After Side Panel or Mirror Repair

The rear-quarter radars powering Blind Spot Detection and Lane Change Assist sit in the side panels. Mirror-mounted cameras feed the 360-degree surround view. If a side panel, quarter panel, or mirror has been replaced or repaired, the affected sensors need recalibration.

Old Smart Owners - Understanding the Difference

If you searched for Smart ADAS calibration and own a ForTwo or ForFour, your car likely has ultrasonic parking sensors only - no camera or radar ADAS that requires calibration. Contact us with your model details and we will confirm whether your specific Smart needs any calibration work.

Smart Models - Full ADAS Calibration Coverage

The Smart #1 is the first Smart with full Level 2+ ADAS - built on Geely's SEA platform with Valeo Smart Safety 360, achieving a 5-star Euro NCAP rating with a 96% Safety Assist score. The Smart #3 adds Traffic Jam Assist to the same ADAS package in a fastback crossover body.

We calibrate ADAS systems on 2 current Smart models. The older ForTwo and ForFour (Mercedes platform) have no camera or radar ADAS - only ultrasonic parking sensors.

Smart ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your Smart

No – the Smart ForTwo and ForFour (W453, pre-2023) used [Mercedes-Benz](/mercedes) platforms with ultrasonic parking sensors only. They have no forward-facing camera, no radar, and no ADAS systems that require calibration. Only the new Smart #1 (2022+) and #3 (2023+) have camera and radar-based ADAS.
