The fifth-generation RAV4 (XA50, 2019+) comes standard with Toyota Safety Sense 2.0, which includes:

The RAV4's front radar module sits behind the Toyota badge area on the front grille – a position that makes it vulnerable to misalignment during bumper repairs. The windscreen camera is mounted behind the rearview mirror.

RAV4 Hybrid note: The majority of UK RAV4s sold since 2019 are hybrid. The ADAS sensor configuration is identical between hybrid and non-hybrid variants – calibration requirements don't differ.

Fourth-generation RAV4s (XA40, 2013–2018) have more basic safety systems. Later models in this generation received Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS-P), but coverage varied by trim level.

Common RAV4 ADAS Issues

Bumper Repair and Radar Misalignment

The RAV4's raised ride height means its front bumper takes impacts from car park bollards, low walls, and minor collisions that wouldn't reach a saloon's bumper. After any bumper removal or replacement, the radar behind the grille loses its factory alignment. If your RAV4's cruise control has stopped working or won't maintain distance after bodywork, radar calibration is needed.

Windscreen Replacement

RAV4 owners replacing a cracked or chipped windscreen need the forward camera recalibrated afterwards. This camera runs LDA, LTA, AHB, and RSA – without recalibration, these systems either malfunction or shut down entirely.

Error Code C1A11 on the RAV4

Fault code C1A11 is a Toyota-specific ADAS diagnostic code linked to radar system faults. On the RAV4, it typically appears after front-end impact or sensor disturbance. Our technicians diagnose the specific fault, recalibrate the radar, and clear the code with manufacturer-approved equipment.
