ADAS Systems on the Volkswagen Caddy

The Caddy 5 (SB, 2020+) moved to VW's MQB platform – the same architecture underpinning the Golf – bringing a significant ADAS upgrade over the previous Caddy 4.

Caddy 4 (SA, 2015–2020):

  • Front Assist – basic AEB using front radar. Optional on Trendline and above.
  • ACC – available as an option on higher trims only.
  • Limited ADAS compared to passenger VW models.

Caddy 5 (SB, 2020+):

  • Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring – front radar behind the VW badge. Standard on Life and above.
  • ACC with Stop & Go – adaptive cruise using the same front radar. Optional on most trims.
  • Lane Assist – windscreen-mounted camera. Available on Style and Move trims.
  • Side Assist – blind spot monitoring via rear radar sensors. Optional on higher trims.
  • Trailer Assist – uses parking sensors and camera for semi-automated reversing with a trailer.

The Caddy 5's radar sits behind the front VW badge, identical to other MQB models. But the Caddy's commercial use means the front bumper takes more punishment – loading bay contact, pallet impacts, and tight depot manoeuvring are everyday hazards that passenger cars rarely face.

Common Issues on the VW Caddy

Loading Bay and Depot Damage

The Caddy's front bumper is the first point of contact in loading bays, warehouse yards, and tight commercial premises. Low-speed impacts that wouldn't concern most van drivers can shift the radar behind the badge. The result: ACC stops engaging and Front Assist warnings appear on the dashboard.

Commercial Caddy operators often run for weeks with these warnings active before booking a repair – the van still drives, so it stays on the road. But Front Assist is a safety system, and fleet insurers increasingly require proof that ADAS systems are functional.

After Bumper Repair or Respray

Body shops handling fleet paintwork and bumper repairs on Caddys often don't realise the front badge houses a radar sensor. The bumper goes back on, the van goes back to work, and the driver notices ACC won't engage. Our radar calibration at £349 restores both ACC and Front Assist.

After Windscreen Replacement

Caddy 5 models with Lane Assist need windscreen calibration after any screen replacement. The commercial windscreen is larger than the Golf's and sits at a different angle – some windscreen companies struggle with the calibration. We handle it at £199, completed same day.

Volkswagen Caddy Calibration Pricing

Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349

A Caddy off the road costs more than a calibration. The £349 Radar/Sensor Calibration covers Front Assist and ACC – your driver is back on the road within two hours. Fleet operators booking multiple vehicles get the same fixed rate per van, with calibration certificates for compliance records.

Volkswagen Caddy ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Volkswagen Caddy

The Caddy 5 (2020+) has Front Assist and optional ACC, Lane Assist, and Side Assist — the same systems as the Golf and T-Roc. The older Caddy 4 (2015–2020) has more limited ADAS — typically Front Assist only on higher trims. Both generations need calibration after bumper or windscreen work if ADAS-equipped.
