BMW 6 Series ADAS Calibration

The current BMW 6 Series Gran Turismo (G32) shares its platform with the 5 Series – but its taller, fastback body changes where ADAS sensors sit and how they need calibrating. The G32's sloped rear screen and extended roofline mean surround-view cameras operate at different angles compared to its 5 Series sibling, requiring model-specific calibration targets.

ADAS Systems on the BMW 6 Series

G32 Gran Turismo (2017+)

The G32 uses the same ADAS hardware as the G30 5 Series, but with geometry adjustments for its taller body:

  • Driving Assistant (standard) – Front Collision Warning, AEB, and Lane Departure Warning. Forward camera behind the windscreen; front radar behind the kidney grille.
  • Driving Assistant Professional (optional, common on UK models) – adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Change Assistant, and Highway Assistant.
  • Parking Assistant Plus – ultrasonic sensors and four surround-view cameras. The G32's longer rear overhang means the rear camera sits further from the rear axle than on the standard 5 Series.

F06/F12/F13 (2011–2018) – Previous Generation

The previous 6 Series offered ADAS as optional extras only. Many F06/F12/F13 models have parking sensors but lack the camera and radar systems found on the G32. If your older 6 Series has ACC, the radar sits behind the lower front bumper.

When Does a BMW 6 Series Need ADAS Calibration?

After Front Bumper or Grille Work

The G32's long-range radar sits behind the kidney grille – the same position as the BMW 5 Series. Bumper repairs, grille replacements, or badge swaps that shift the grille can misalign the radar, deactivating Active Cruise Control and Front Collision Warning.

After Windscreen Replacement

The forward camera handles Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, and AEB. Windscreen calibration is required after every glass replacement.

Surround View Distortion After Bodywork

The G32's four surround-view cameras stitch together an overhead image. Panel repairs or mirror replacements near a camera can distort the bird's-eye view on iDrive – each affected camera needs individual recalibration.

BMW 6 Series ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BMW 6 Series

Yes. The G32 shares its CLAR platform and ADAS components with the G30 5 Series. However, the GT's taller body means sensor mounting angles differ, requiring 6 Series-specific calibration parameters.
