BMW i7 ADAS Calibration

The BMW i7 carries the most advanced ADAS hardware in BMW's entire range. As the electric flagship on the dedicated G70 platform, the i7 ships with Driving Assistant Professional, Highway Assistant, Active Parking, and Surround View as standard – no optional packages, no trim-dependent omissions. When a collision or windscreen replacement disturbs any sensor in this interconnected system, multiple safety features disable simultaneously.

ADAS Systems on the BMW i7

The i7 (G70, 2022+) is BMW's technology flagship. Every variant – xDrive60, M70, and the combustion 7 Series equivalent – comes fully equipped:

  • Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go – front radar behind the closed, illuminated kidney grille.
  • Highway Assistant – semi-autonomous motorway driving combining front radar, forward camera, and side radar.
  • Steering and Lane Control Assistant – active lane centring with steering correction.
  • Automatic Lane Change – autonomous motorway lane changes when the indicator is activated, using side radar behind the rear bumper panels.
  • Front Collision Warning with AEB – dual-source detection via forward camera and front radar.
  • Parking Assistant Professional – automated parking, reversing assistant (remembers last 200m), and Remote Parking via BMW app.
  • Surround View with 3D View – four cameras for bird's-eye and 3D visualisation.

The i7's illuminated kidney grille adds a decorative element in front of the radar – during calibration, this must be properly seated to avoid signal interference.

When Your BMW i7 Needs ADAS Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

The i7's panoramic-style windscreen is one of the largest in BMW's range. The forward camera mounted behind it feeds Highway Assistant, Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, and Front Collision Warning. After windscreen replacement, static recalibration is essential – the camera position tolerance on the i7 is extremely tight due to Highway Assistant's reliance on precise alignment.

After Front-End Collision or Bodywork

Any disruption to the front fascia affects the radar behind the illuminated grille. The i7's long front overhang makes it susceptible to car park impacts. If Active Cruise Control or Automatic Lane Change disables after repair, radar calibration is needed.

Rear-End Collision Affecting Side Radar

The i7's Automatic Lane Change and Blind Spot Detection use side radar behind the rear bumper. A rear-end impact can displace these without damaging front sensors. If Automatic Lane Change won't engage, rear sensor calibration is required.

BMW i7 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BMW i7

The i7 and combustion 7 Series share the G70 platform and identical ADAS hardware. Sensor positions and calibration procedures are the same. The i7's closed lower grille and optional illuminated surround are the only physical differences affecting radar placement — our technicians account for these during calibration.
