Ferrari 296 GTS ADAS Calibration

Drop the roof on a 296 GTS and you expose every forward-facing sensor to road spray, gravel, and British weather. The GTS carries the same ADAS hardware as the 296 GTB, but open-top driving introduces wear patterns the coupe never sees. Stone chips hit the windscreen at steeper angles, debris accumulates around the radar housing, and the hardtop's additional weight shifts the car's pitch – all factors that make precise sensor calibration essential after bodywork.

ADAS Sensors on the 296 GTS Spider

The 296 GTS (2023+) shares its sensor architecture with the 296 GTB – same front radar behind the bumper for AEB, same optional Full ADAS Pack adding ACC, Lane Departure Warning, Blind Spot Detection, and Surround View Camera. The retractable hardtop stows behind the cabin and does not physically interact with any sensor mounting point.

What differs is exposure. With the roof down, the windscreen camera catches more sunlight, insects, and road grime – which can trigger soft faults that mimic a calibration issue. Clean the camera lens area first. If the fault persists after cleaning, the sensor alignment needs attention.

Spider-Specific Calibration Triggers

Retractable Hardtop Vibration and Sensor Drift

The 296 GTS's two-piece retractable hardtop adds mechanical complexity behind the cabin. The roof mechanism's operation transmits vibration through the chassis. While this does not directly displace sensors, owners who operate the roof frequently may experience earlier sensor drift compared to GTB owners. If AEB or ACC behaves erratically without any bodywork trigger, a diagnostic check can confirm whether recalibration is needed.

Open-Top Stone Chip Exposure

The windscreen takes stone impacts at angles the coupe's roofline would deflect. The 296 GTS has a higher windscreen replacement rate than the GTB. Every windscreen replacement on a Full ADAS Pack car requires camera recalibration – if your GTS is on its second or third windscreen, each replacement is a calibration event.

Front Splitter Damage from Weight Distribution

The GTS weighs approximately 70kg more than the GTB due to the roof mechanism. This additional weight – concentrated over the rear – changes the car's nose pitch, particularly under braking. Front splitter contact with speed bumps and ramps is marginally more likely. Any resulting bumper repair displaces the AEB radar.

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

Windscreen camera recalibration at £199 is the most common 296 GTS service – spider owners replace windscreens more often than coupe owners. For bumper-related radar work, our £349 rate includes full diagnostic confirmation.

Ferrari 296 GTS ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ferrari 296 GTS

The roof mechanism does not touch any sensor. However, repeated mechanical action can contribute to gradual sensor drift over high-mileage use. If you notice intermittent AEB or ACC warnings without bodywork history, a diagnostic scan can determine whether recalibration is warranted.
