Hyundai i40 ADAS Calibration

Hyundai discontinued the i40 in 2019, but the saloon and Tourer remain a common sight on UK roads – particularly as ex-fleet vehicles entering private ownership. Later i40 models (2015–2019) carry an early generation of Hyundai's ADAS systems that predates the SmartSense branding, and these systems still need calibration after windscreen replacement or front-end repairs. We calibrate all i40 ADAS configurations at 70+ UK workshops.

ADAS Systems on the Hyundai i40

The i40 (VF, 2011–2019) was Hyundai's mid-size saloon/estate. ADAS features were introduced gradually and vary significantly by model year.

i40 (2011–2014):

  • Limited ADAS – parking sensors and cruise control only on most trims. No camera or radar-dependent safety systems.

i40 (2015–2019, facelift):

  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) – camera-based forward collision detection with automatic braking. Hyundai did not yet use the "Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist" branding on this model.
  • Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS) – windscreen camera for lane departure warning and correction. Available on Premium trim.
  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) – radar-based adaptive cruise. Available on Premium SE trim.
  • High Beam Assist (HBA) – automatic high beam via windscreen camera.
  • Driver Attention Alert – steering pattern analysis for fatigue detection.

Pre-SmartSense note: The i40 predates Hyundai's SmartSense unified branding. System names differ from current models like the Tucson and IONIQ 5, but the underlying camera and radar technology is compatible with our calibration equipment.

Common i40 ADAS Issues

After Windscreen Replacement

The i40's AEB, LKAS, and HBA all depend on the windscreen-mounted camera. As these vehicles age, windscreen replacements become more frequent – and each replacement requires camera calibration. The i40's camera housing predates the standardised SmartSense module, so windscreen fitters unfamiliar with the model may not realise calibration is needed.

Ageing Sensors on a Discontinued Model

With the i40 out of production for several years, replacement cameras and radar units increasingly come from breakers. Fitting a used sensor requires full recalibration to your specific vehicle – the secondhand unit carries calibration values from its donor car that do not apply to yours.

Ex-Fleet Vehicles Entering Private Ownership

Many i40s are former company cars. Fleet managers may have deferred ADAS calibration after windscreen replacements or minor repairs. If you bought a used i40 with persistent lane departure or AEB warnings, a previous owner may have skipped the calibration step. A single calibration appointment at £199 typically resolves long-standing camera faults.

Hyundai i40 Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

Most i40 calibrations are windscreen-related – our £199 camera calibration restores AEB, LKAS, and High Beam Assist after glass replacement. For i40 Premium SE models with Smart Cruise Control radar faults, the £349 Radar/Sensor Calibration covers the front sensor.

Hyundai i40 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Hyundai i40

If your i40 is a 2015 or later model on Premium or Premium SE trim, it likely has AEB, Lane Keeping Assist, and possibly Smart Cruise Control. Earlier i40s (2011–2014) typically lack camera or radar-based safety systems. Check your dashboard for ADAS controls or contact us with your registration — we can confirm.
