Jeep Wrangler ADAS Calibration

The Jeep Wrangler is body-on-frame with minimal ADAS – but it still carries AEB via a forward-facing camera and Blind Spot Monitoring via radar sensors in the tail lamp housings. The Wrangler's off-road lifestyle means trail impacts, aftermarket bumper swaps, and windscreen replacements are routine – and each one can displace the sensors that power Forward Collision Warning and BSM. Even the most rugged vehicle on UK roads needs its safety systems calibrated.

ADAS Systems on Your Jeep Wrangler

The Wrangler JL (2018+) carries a limited but important ADAS suite:

  • Forward Collision Warning with Active Braking (AEB) – Forward-facing camera behind the windscreen detects vehicles ahead. Standard on 2024 facelift models.
  • Blind Spot Monitoring (BSM) – Radar sensors mounted in the tail lamp housings, not the bumper. Detects vehicles in adjacent lanes.
  • Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) – Uses the same tail lamp radar to warn of cross-traffic when reversing
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – Optional on higher trims, using front radar
  • ParkSense – Rear parking sensors

The Wrangler's BSM radar sensors are uniquely positioned in the tail lamp housings rather than the rear bumper – a design choice driven by the Wrangler's frequently-removed tailgate and aftermarket bumper culture. This means tail lamp replacement or rear-end damage triggers BSM recalibration.

Wrangler-Specific ADAS Considerations

Off-Road Sensor Displacement

The Wrangler's primary use case – off-road trails – is also the primary cause of sensor displacement. Front impacts from rocks and obstacles shift the windscreen camera. Rear impacts from backing into obstacles displace BSM sensors in the tail lamps. Hard drops off ledges and underbody strikes can jar sensors from their mounts.

Aftermarket Bumper and Accessory Impact

Wrangler owners commonly fit aftermarket steel bumpers, winch mounts, and bull bars. If these accessories obstruct the forward camera's field of view or change the mounting angle of the tail lamps, ADAS systems can malfunction. After fitting any front-end or rear-end accessories, check for dashboard warnings.

Windscreen Replacement

The AEB camera sits behind the windscreen. After glass replacement – common on Wranglers due to the upright windscreen angle and off-road debris exposure – the camera needs recalibration. Our £199 Windscreen Calibration service.

Tail Lamp and Rear-End Repairs

BSM and RCTA sensors in the tail lamp housings need recalibration after any tail lamp replacement, tailgate work, or rear-end collision. This is unusual – most vehicles have BSM in the rear bumper. On the Wrangler, it's the tail lamps.

Jeep Wrangler ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Jeep Wrangler

Yes. The Wrangler's body-on-frame design and off-road focus mean it carries fewer ADAS systems than the Grand Cherokee (which has Night Vision and Intersection Collision Assist) or even the Avenger (which has full Lane Keep Assist). But the Wrangler's AEB and BSM still need calibration after repairs.
