Lexus RXL ADAS Calibration

The RXL added a third row of seats to the previous-generation RX – making it Lexus's seven-seat family SUV. Produced from 2018 to 2022, every RXL came with LSS+ 2.0 as standard: Dynamic Radar Cruise Control, Pre-Collision System, Lane Departure Alert, and Lane Tracing Assist. The extended body means a longer rear overhang with Blind Spot Monitor sensors that sit further back than on the standard RX – relevant for rear-end repair calibration.

ADAS Systems on Your Lexus RXL

The RXL (2018-2022) runs LSS+ 2.0 on the TNGA-K platform:

  • Pre-Collision System (PCS) – AEB using front radar behind the grille and windscreen camera.
  • Dynamic Radar Cruise Control (DRCC) – adaptive cruise via front radar.
  • Lane Departure Alert (LDA) – windscreen camera.
  • Lane Tracing Assist (LTA) – active lane centering.
  • Blind Spot Monitor (BSM) – rear bumper corner sensors. The RXL's extended body places these sensors further rearward than the standard RX.
  • Rear Cross-Traffic Alert (RCTA) – reversing detection.
  • Road Sign Assist (RSA) – camera-based.

The RXL shares the same front sensor positions as the standard RX and equivalent Toyota models. Front radar behind the emblem, camera behind the rear-view mirror. Calibration procedures follow the same Toyota platform protocols.

Common Triggers for RXL Calibration

After Bumper Repair

Family SUV use means supermarket car parks, school drop-offs, and tight parking. The RXL's front bumper houses the PCS and DRCC radar. After repair or replacement, radar recalibration is mandatory.

After Windscreen Replacement

LDA, LTA, and RSA depend on the windscreen camera. Every windscreen replacement on the RXL requires camera recalibration.

After Rear-End Damage

The RXL's extended body means the Blind Spot Monitor sensors in the rear bumper corners sit further back than on the standard RX. Rear-end impacts – common in car park reversing situations with a long vehicle – can shift these sensors. BSM and RCTA warnings after rear repairs indicate recalibration is needed.

Lexus RXL ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Lexus RXL

Yes — the seven-seat RXL was based on the previous-generation RX (2018-2022). The current fifth-generation RX is available in standard five-seat form only. But RXLs remain on UK roads and the calibration requirement applies after any repair.
