Mercedes calls it DISTRONIC – the adaptive cruise control system that keeps your C-Class at a safe following distance and brakes in stop-and-go traffic. The radar sensor powering DISTRONIC sits behind the three-pointed star on the front grille. If that star has been removed, the bumper refitted, or the front end repaired, DISTRONIC and Active Brake Assist both need professional recalibration.
It does not have to be a bodyshop repair. One C-Class owner contacted us after a local mechanic removed the bumper for unrelated work – the cruise control stopped working the moment the bumper was refitted. The radar's mounting angle shifted during removal and refit by enough to take DISTRONIC offline. Bumper removal by any mechanic, for any reason, can trigger this.

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mercedes C-Class
No. The W205 (2014–2021) has a simpler ADAS setup — DISTRONIC and Active Brake Assist are the primary systems, with the Driving Assistance Package adding lane keeping on higher trims. The W206 (2021+) has a more comprehensive suite with Active Steering Assist and standard multifunction camera. Calibration requirements differ between generations — our technicians identify your C-Class model and apply the correct procedure.
