Mercedes GLC ADAS Calibration

The Mercedes GLC is one of the most common mid-size SUVs we see for ADAS recalibration. Built on the same platform as the C-Class, the GLC carries the full Intelligent Drive package – but with sensor positions adapted for its higher ride height and larger bumper profile. When DISTRONIC or Active Brake Assist flags a fault after bodywork, the GLC's radar behind the star badge needs precision realignment.

ADAS Systems on the Mercedes GLC

The GLC (X253, 2015–2022 / X254, 2022+) shares its ADAS architecture with the C-Class but adds SUV-specific considerations:

  • DISTRONIC – adaptive cruise control using the long-range radar behind the front grille star badge. Stop-and-go capable in traffic.
  • Active Brake Assist – automatic emergency braking via front radar and the windscreen-mounted multifunction camera. Detects vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist – multifunction camera reads lane markings and applies steering correction if you drift without indicating.
  • Blind Spot Assist – rear-mounted radar sensors in both rear bumper corners. Particularly important on the GLC given reduced rear visibility compared to a saloon.
  • Active Parking Assist (PARKTRONIC) – ultrasonic sensors for parking guidance. 360-degree camera available on AMG Line and above.
  • Traffic Sign Assist – camera-based speed limit recognition via the multifunction camera.
  • PRE-SAFE – pre-collision occupant protection system.

The GLC's radar sits behind the three-pointed star on the front grille – the same location as the C-Class and E-Class. The difference: the GLC's bumper is deeper and more exposed to low-speed impacts in car parks and driveways, making radar disturbance more frequent on SUVs.

Why Your GLC Might Need ADAS Calibration

After Bumper or Grille Work

The GLC's prominent front end absorbs car park knocks, kerb damage, and minor collision impacts. Body shops remove and refit the bumper for paintwork and dent repair – and the radar behind the star badge shifts. Even when the bumper looks perfect cosmetically, DISTRONIC may display "currently unavailable" because the sensor has moved fractions of a degree.

Windscreen Replacement

The GLC's multifunction camera handles Active Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and automatic high beams simultaneously. After windscreen replacement, all three systems need recalibrating. Windscreen companies can replace the glass but often cannot complete the ADAS calibration – we handle what they can't.

After Collision Repair

Mid-size SUVs like the GLC are frequently involved in front and rear impacts. Front-end damage affects the radar; rear impacts can shift blind spot sensors. If your body shop or insurer has flagged ADAS calibration as part of your repair, we can provide a detailed quote for the claim. Read our guide on what ADAS calibration involves if you're unsure what to expect. The GLE and EQB follow the same sensor layout if you're comparing across Mercedes SUVs.

Mercedes GLC ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mercedes GLC

Yes. Even low-speed impacts that leave no visible damage can shift the radar behind the star badge enough to disable DISTRONIC. The system requires precise alignment — our IMI-certified technicians recalibrate the radar using OEM-grade equipment to restore full functionality.
