ADAS Systems on the Mercedes GLE

The GLE (W167, 2019+) carries Mercedes's most comprehensive ADAS package outside the S-Class:

• DISTRONIC – long-range radar behind the front grille star. Handles adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go capability in traffic.
• Active Brake Assist – dual-source emergency braking using both front radar and the windscreen multifunction camera. Can detect pedestrians and cyclists.
• Active Steering Assist – semi-autonomous lane centring on motorways, combining radar and camera data. Standard on AMG Line trims.
• Active Blind Spot Assist – rear radar sensors plus active steering intervention if you indicate into an occupied lane.
• Active Parking Assist (PARKTRONIC) – ultrasonic sensors around the vehicle for automated parking. The GLE also offers a 360-degree camera system on higher trims.
• PRE-SAFE – pre-collision preparation including seatbelt tensioning and window closure.
• Active Lane Keeping Assist – camera-based lane departure warning with active steering correction.

The GLE's size means more sensor surface area. Front radar behind the star, multifunction camera on the windscreen, rear radars in both bumper corners, and up to 12 ultrasonic sensors. A front-end collision can affect multiple systems simultaneously.

The GLE is a large SUV – low-speed car park impacts and rear-end collisions are common. Front-end damage frequently affects the radar behind the star badge, while rear impacts can shift the blind spot sensors. When multiple systems flag faults after a collision, collision calibration addresses everything in one session.

Windscreen Replacement

After windscreen replacement, all three systems need recalibrating. Autoglass or similar can replace the glass but often cannot complete the ADAS calibration – we handle what they can't. Parking Sensor Misalignment

After bumper repairs on the GLE, PARKTRONIC ultrasonic sensors can register false readings or stop responding entirely. This is separate from the radar calibration but equally important for a vehicle this size.
