Mercedes CLA ADAS Calibration

Your Mercedes CLA's DISTRONIC stopped working after a front-end repair? The CLA is built on the same MFA2 platform as the A-Class – same radar behind the star badge, same multifunction camera behind the windscreen, same calibration requirements. When either sensor is disturbed, DISTRONIC, Active Brake Assist, and Active Lane Keeping Assist all need professional recalibration.

ADAS Systems on the Mercedes CLA

The CLA (C118, 2019+) shares the MFA2 compact platform with the A-Class, which means identical ADAS hardware and sensor positions:

  • DISTRONIC – adaptive cruise control with stop-and-go. Uses the long-range radar behind the front grille star badge.
  • Active Brake Assist – automatic emergency braking using front radar and multifunction camera. Detects vehicles, pedestrians, and crossing traffic.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist – camera-based lane detection with active steering correction.
  • Blind Spot Assist – rear-mounted radar sensors. Standard on AMG Line, optional on Sport trims.
  • PRE-SAFE – pre-collision system that tightens seatbelts and closes windows.
  • Traffic Sign Assist – speed limit recognition via the multifunction camera.

The CLA's coupe-style roofline gives the windscreen a sharper rake angle than the A-Class hatchback. The multifunction camera sits in the same position behind the rearview mirror, but the mounting bracket and angle differ – this matters during calibration.

When Your CLA Needs ADAS Calibration

After Bumper or Grille Repair

The CLA's low front end and sportier bumper profile make it prone to scraping and minor collision damage. Body shops remove the front bumper for paintwork, dent repair, or grille replacement – shifting the radar behind the star badge. If DISTRONIC shows as unavailable after bodywork, radar calibration realigns the sensor.

After Windscreen Replacement

The CLA's multifunction camera handles Active Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and automatic high beams simultaneously. A windscreen replacement disturbs the camera – all three systems need recalibrating before they function again. The same procedure applies to the A-Class and GLA, which share identical camera hardware.
