Mercedes CLS ADAS Calibration

The Mercedes CLS is an E-Class underneath – same chassis, same radar behind the star badge, same multifunction camera behind the windscreen. But the CLS's four-door coupe body sits lower and wider, making the front bumper more exposed to scraping and impacts. When that bumper is removed for repair, the DISTRONIC radar shifts and the Intelligent Drive suite needs recalibration.

ADAS Systems on the Mercedes CLS

The CLS (C257, 2018+) is built on the same platform as the E-Class W213, sharing identical ADAS architecture:

  • DISTRONIC – adaptive cruise control via the long-range radar behind the front grille star badge. Standard across all CLS trims.
  • Active Brake Assist – automatic emergency braking using front radar and multifunction camera.
  • Active Steering Assist – semi-autonomous motorway driving. Standard on AMG Line, available on Sport trims.
  • Active Lane Keeping Assist – camera-based lane detection with steering correction.
  • PRE-SAFE – pre-collision occupant protection.
  • Blind Spot Assist – rear-mounted radar sensors monitoring adjacent lanes.
  • Traffic Sign Assist – speed limit recognition via the multifunction camera.

The CLS carries Active Steering Assist as standard on more trims than the E-Class saloon. A bumper repair that misaligns the radar doesn't just disable DISTRONIC – it takes Steering Assist offline too.

Common CLS ADAS Triggers

After Front-End Bodywork

The CLS's low-slung front end sits closer to the ground than the E-Class saloon, making it more susceptible to kerb damage and car park scrapes. When the bumper is removed for repair, the radar behind the star badge shifts – DISTRONIC and Active Brake Assist both go down. Radar calibration restores functionality.

Windscreen Replacement

The CLS's raked windscreen positions the multifunction camera at a steeper angle than the E-Class. After windscreen replacement, the camera needs recalibrating to restore Active Lane Keeping Assist, Traffic Sign Assist, and automatic high beams. The windscreen company replaces the glass – we handle the ADAS calibration they can't.

Cat S/N CLS Purchases

The CLS is desirable in the salvage market, and front-end collision damage often disturbs the radar without being checked during repair. If you've bought a Cat S or Cat N CLS and DISTRONIC won't engage, the radar needs recalibration. Our Cat S ADAS guide explains what to expect.

Mercedes CLS Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

Because the CLS shares its ADAS platform with the E-Class, the calibration procedure and pricing are identical. Our £349 Collision Calibration covers both radar and camera recalibration in a single appointment.

Mercedes CLS ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Mercedes CLS

No. The CLS and E-Class share identical ADAS hardware — same radar, same multifunction camera, same sensor positions. The calibration procedure is the same. The CLS's different body shape doesn't change how the sensors are aligned.
