Renault 5 E-Tech ADAS Calibration

Renault's electric revival of the 5 sits on the CMF-BEV platform with the full EASY DRIVE suite as standard – Active Emergency Braking, ACC, and Lane Keeping Assist all active from day one. The compact body means the front radar and windscreen camera are positioned closer together than on larger Renaults like the Austral, making precise calibration critical when either sensor is disturbed. From £199 at 70+ UK workshops.

ADAS Systems on Your Renault 5 E-Tech

The 5 E-Tech launched in the UK with EASY DRIVE standard across all trims. As an entirely new platform, every UK example has the same sensor configuration:

  • Active Emergency Braking (AEB) – combined radar and camera detection of vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists. Activates autonomous braking when a collision is imminent.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – radar-based, maintains set speed and distance to the vehicle ahead. The radar module sits behind the front bumper fascia.
  • Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) – uses the windscreen-mounted camera to detect lane markings and applies steering correction when drifting.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – camera-based visual and haptic alerts for unintended lane departure.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – camera-dependent system that reads speed limit signs and displays them in the instrument cluster.
  • Automatic High Beam – camera-based headlight management, detecting oncoming and preceding vehicles.

The compact dimensions of the 5 E-Tech mean the front radar has less bumper material protecting it from minor impacts – even a low-speed car park knock can displace the sensor.

Common Calibration Triggers for the Renault 5 E-Tech

After front bumper damage – the 5 E-Tech's radar is housed behind the front bumper panel. The compact front end offers less crumple zone than SUV models, so parking impacts that might not affect a Captur can shift the 5 E-Tech's radar enough to trigger AEB and ACC warnings. Radar recalibration restores alignment.

After windscreen replacement – LKA, LDW, TSR, and Automatic High Beam all depend on the forward camera behind the rearview mirror. Every windscreen swap requires camera recalibration before these systems function again.

After a frontal collision – even minor frontal impacts on the 5 E-Tech can affect both the bumper-mounted radar and the windscreen camera simultaneously. If multiple EASY DRIVE warnings appear after an incident, a Full System Reset covers everything.

Renault 5 E-Tech ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Renault 5 E-Tech

No. The 5 E-Tech uses the smaller CMF-BEV platform while the Megane E-Tech sits on the larger CMF-EV. Both carry EASY DRIVE, but sensor positions, mounting points, and calibration parameters are platform-specific. We calibrate both using manufacturer procedures. See all Renault models
