ADAS Technology on the Renault Austral

The Austral carries Renault's full EASY DRIVE suite – the same Level 2 capability as the Arkana, but on the larger CMF-CD platform shared with the Nissan Qashqai. Two sensor clusters handle everything:

Front radar (behind the bumper emblem):

• Active Emergency Braking (AEB) – standard on all Austral models. Detects vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
• Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – standard on Techno and Esprit Alpine trims, optional on lower specs.
• Safe Distance Warning – radar-based proximity alert, works alongside ACC.

Windscreen-mounted camera (behind the rearview mirror):

• Lane Keeping Assist (LKA) – active steering correction. Standard across the range.
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – camera-based drift alerts.
• Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – reads and displays speed limits on the openR display.
• Highway & Traffic Jam Companion – Renault's Level 2 system combining ACC with lane centring. Requires both radar AND camera to be calibrated. Available on Techno and Esprit Alpine trims.

Because the Austral launched in 2022, all UK models share this sensor configuration – there are no pre-ADAS generations in the UK market.

Why Your Renault Austral Might Need Calibration

After front-end collision or bumper repair – the radar behind the Renault emblem controls AEB, ACC, and the distance component of Highway & Traffic Jam Companion. The Austral's front bumper design integrates the radar tightly with the grille assembly. Bumper replacement, even minor parking damage repairs, can shift the sensor enough to trigger dashboard warnings or phantom braking.

After windscreen replacement – every camera-dependent system on the Austral (LKA, LDW, TSR, lane centring) goes offline until the camera is recalibrated. The openR multimedia system will display warnings for each affected feature individually, which can look alarming – but it's a single windscreen calibration appointment.

After both sensors are disturbed – frontal collisions on the Austral typically affect both radar and camera. When Highway & Traffic Jam Companion shows as unavailable alongside AEB and LKA warnings, both sensor clusters need attention. Our Full System Reset covers everything in one session.
