Subaru Outback ADAS Calibration

The Outback has the longest EyeSight history in the UK Subaru range – the stereo camera system has been fitted since 2014, making it one of the earliest EyeSight models British owners need calibration for. Across three generations of the system, the principle remains the same: two cameras behind the windscreen, no front radar. Windscreen replacement is the number one calibration trigger, and the Outback sees its share – stone chips on country roads are a constant hazard for this estate crossover.

ADAS Systems on Your Subaru Outback

The Outback on the Subaru Global Platform has evolved its EyeSight:

Fifth generation (2015–2019):

  • EyeSight Driver Assist – stereo cameras (colour, second-gen EyeSight)
  • Pre-Collision Braking – AEB for vehicles and obstacles
  • Adaptive Cruise Control – camera-based
  • Lane Departure Warning and Lane Sway Warning
  • Lead Vehicle Start Alert

Sixth generation (2020+):

  • All of the above, plus:
  • DriverFocus Distraction Mitigation – interior-facing camera monitoring driver attention and facial recognition for personalised settings
  • Lane Keep Assist / Advanced Lane Centering – active lane centring
  • Wider EyeSight viewing angle and improved processing

Both generations use dual stereo cameras behind the windscreen with no front radar. DriverFocus on the 2020+ Outback is a separate interior camera above the instrument cluster, calibrated independently from EyeSight.

Why Your Subaru Outback Needs EyeSight Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

Stone chips and country road hazards make the Outback a frequent candidate for windscreen replacement. Both EyeSight cameras are bonded to the glass – when the windscreen is changed, both cameras must be recalibrated using Subaru-specific targets. If your windscreen fitter couldn't complete the calibration, our Windscreen Calibration at £199 handles it.

"EyeSight Disabled" Warning

When the Outback shows "EyeSight Disabled," all systems go offline – Pre-Collision Braking, Adaptive Cruise Control, Lane Keep Assist, and on 2020+ models, the integration with DriverFocus for the full safety suite. Windscreen work is the most common cause.

DriverFocus Issues (2020+ Outback)

The DriverFocus interior camera is separate from EyeSight. If it's showing faults – failing to recognise the driver, or displaying attention warnings incorrectly – it may need independent recalibration. DriverFocus does not affect the EyeSight cameras, and vice versa.

No Radar Means No Bumper Calibration

Unlike most SUVs and crossovers, the Outback has no front bumper radar. Minor bumper damage typically doesn't trigger ADAS faults. This is a genuine advantage of Subaru's camera-only architecture – but it makes the windscreen even more critical.

Subaru Outback ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Subaru Outback

The calibration principle is the same — dual stereo cameras, Subaru-specific targets. The 2015 Outback uses an earlier EyeSight generation with a slightly narrower viewing angle, but the calibration targets and procedure are compatible. Our equipment supports all EyeSight generations from 2014 onward.
