Vauxhall Astra Electric ADAS Calibration

The Vauxhall Astra Electric runs the same IntelliDrive ADAS hardware as the petrol and diesel Astra – identical camera behind the windscreen, identical radar behind the front bumper badge. What differs is how Adaptive Cruise Control coordinates with the electric drivetrain's regenerative braking. If your Astra Electric's ACC feels inconsistent after a repair, or Active Safety Brake warnings are showing, the sensors need recalibrating – not the EV systems.

ADAS Systems on the Vauxhall Astra Electric

The Astra Electric (2023+) sits on the Stellantis EMP2 platform and carries the full IntelliDrive suite:

  • Automatic Emergency Braking (AEB) / Forward Collision Alert – windscreen camera and front radar work together for vehicle and pedestrian detection. Standard across all trims.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – radar-based, maintains following distance. On the Astra Electric, ACC integrates with regenerative braking to decelerate – a misaligned radar disrupts the regen-to-friction braking handoff.
  • Lane Keep Assist (LKA) – camera-based corrective steering when drifting without indicating.
  • Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – audible alert for unintentional lane crossing.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – reads speed limit signs via the windscreen camera.
  • Side Blind Spot Alert – rear-quarter radar sensors detect vehicles in adjacent lanes.
  • Advanced Park Assist – ultrasonic sensors for semi-automated parking.

The radar sits behind the front Vauxhall badge. The forward camera is mounted behind the windscreen near the rearview mirror – the same position as the petrol Astra.

When Your Astra Electric Needs ADAS Calibration

After windscreen replacement

Lane Keep Assist, LDW, Traffic Sign Recognition, and the camera element of AEB all depend on the forward camera behind the windscreen. A glass replacement without camera calibration leaves these systems inactive. Most windscreen fitters don't carry the Stellantis-specific diagnostic tools to complete this step.

After bumper repair

The front radar behind the Vauxhall badge shifts during any bumper removal – even for cosmetic work. ACC and AEB will throw dashboard warnings until the radar is recalibrated. On the Astra Electric, you may also notice ACC applying the friction brakes earlier than expected instead of using regenerative deceleration.

Regenerative braking inconsistency

If your Astra Electric's ACC starts braking abruptly rather than smoothly blending regen with friction brakes, the radar alignment is likely off. The system needs accurate distance readings to plan deceleration – misalignment forces it to fall back on mechanical braking, wasting energy and reducing range.

Astra Electric owners who've had both the windscreen and bumper repaired after a collision often need our £499 Full System Reset, covering radar, camera, and all connected IntelliDrive sensors in a single appointment.

Vauxhall Astra Electric ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Vauxhall Astra Electric

No. The Astra Electric uses identical ADAS hardware in the same positions as the petrol and diesel Astra. The calibration procedure is the same. The only difference is how ACC coordinates with regenerative braking on the electric drivetrain — a software interaction, not a sensor difference.
