Volkswagen Sharan ADAS Calibration

Volkswagen discontinued the Sharan in 2022, but tens of thousands remain on UK roads – and their ADAS systems still need calibration after repairs. The Sharan's tall MPV body positions the front radar and windscreen camera differently from VW's hatchbacks and SUVs, and body shops less familiar with the model can overlook sensor locations during panel work. We calibrate every Sharan ADAS sensor at 70+ UK workshops with fixed pricing.

ADAS Systems on the Volkswagen Sharan

The second-generation Sharan (7N, 2010–2022) received progressive ADAS upgrades across its long production run. Equipment varies significantly by year and trim.

Sharan (2010–2015):

  • Front Assist – automatic emergency braking via front radar behind the VW badge. Available from 2012 onward as an option.
  • ACC – adaptive cruise control sharing the front radar. Optional on Highline trim.
  • Park Assist – ultrasonic semi-automated parking. Available on mid-to-upper trims.

Sharan (2015–2022, facelift):

  • Front Assist with Pedestrian Monitoring – upgraded AEB. Standard on SEL and above.
  • ACC – standard on higher trims, optional on SE.
  • Lane Assist – windscreen-mounted camera for lane departure warning. Standard on SEL trims.
  • Side Assist – blind spot monitoring via rear radar. Optional on higher trims.
  • Rear Traffic Alert – cross-traffic detection when reversing.

MPV-specific note: The Sharan's upright windscreen angle means the Lane Assist camera sits more vertically than on a Golf or Passat. This affects calibration target positioning – the standard VW hatchback/saloon setup does not apply directly to the Sharan.

Common Sharan ADAS Triggers

Ageing Sensors on a Discontinued Model

With the Sharan out of production, replacement parts increasingly come from breakers or aftermarket sources. Fitting a used radar module or secondhand windscreen camera requires full recalibration – the sensor must be aligned to this specific vehicle, not just plugged in. If your Sharan's Front Assist reactivated after a parts swap but readings seem off, the calibration reference likely wasn't reset.

After Windscreen Replacement

The Sharan's large, upright windscreen is prone to stone chips from motorway driving, and replacements are common on older models. Lane Assist and the camera element of Front Assist both require windscreen calibration after any glass replacement – and the Sharan's unique camera angle means generic calibration rigs need model-specific target placement.

After Bumper or Grille Work

Like all VW Group vehicles, the Sharan's radar sits behind the front badge. The MPV's higher bumper line means this sensor sits at a different height than on a Golf. Any front-end work – collision repair, respray, or grille replacement – shifts the radar and requires recalibration.
