ADAS Calibration for BMW models

If your BMW's Active Cruise Control has stopped working after a front-end repair, the long-range radar sensor behind the front grille needs recalibration. BMW packages its ADAS features into two tiers - Driving Assistant and Driving Assistant Professional - and both rely on sensors that require precision calibration after any physical disturbance.

BMW ADAS Calibration Cost

Calibration costs depend on your specific BMW model, which ADAS systems need recalibration, and whether mobile or workshop service is required.

Every BMW model has different ADAS sensors fitted depending on trim level and year. Share your registration and we’ll confirm exactly which systems need calibration.

What BMW ADAS Calibration Involves

The three most common calibration scenarios for BMW vehicles — each linked to a dedicated service page.

£199 Starting price

Windscreen Camera Recalibration

Every BMW with a forward-facing camera — including models with Lane Departure Warning, Traffic Sign Recognition, and Autonomous Emergency Braking — requires camera recalibration after windscreen replacement. This is the most common BMW ADAS job we carry out.

Radar & Sensor Alignment

BMW models fitted with Adaptive Cruise Control, Blind Spot Detection, or Rear Cross Traffic Alert carry radar modules behind the bumper or grille. Any bodywork repair or bumper removal requires sensor recalibration using manufacturer-specific targets and procedures.

Post-Collision Full Check

After any collision repair involving a BMW, multiple ADAS sensors may be disturbed simultaneously — including cameras, radar modules, and parking sensors. A comprehensive post-collision calibration restores every system to factory tolerances and satisfies insurer documentation requirements.

BMW ADAS Systems We Calibrate

BMW bundles its safety systems into two packages. Knowing which one your BMW has determines which sensors need attention:

  • Driving Assistant (standard) - Includes Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning. Uses a forward-facing camera behind the windscreen and a front radar behind the grille.
  • Driving Assistant Professional (premium) - Adds Active Cruise Control, Lane Change Assistant, and Highway Assistant. Uses the same sensors plus additional radar and camera modules for highway-speed automation.
  • Parking Assistant Plus - Ultrasonic sensors and surround-view cameras for automated parking manoeuvres.
  • Surround View - Four cameras providing a 360-degree bird's-eye view around the vehicle.
  • Speed Limit Info - Camera-based traffic sign recognition that displays current speed limits on the instrument cluster.

BMW calls its automatic emergency braking system "Driving Assistant" - you might know it as the system that brakes for you when it detects a collision is imminent. Both the standard and Professional versions require recalibration after windscreen replacement, bumper repair, or front-end collision.

Common Reasons BMW Owners Contact Us

Post-Collision Radar Faults

Front-end collisions frequently damage or misalign the long-range radar sensor behind the BMW grille. Even a minor bump can trigger "Front Collision Warning deactivated" on your dashboard. Radar calibration resolves this.

"Front end collision warning deactivated and distance information alerts appear on the dashboard. Need to recalibrate it." - BMW X5 owner, Croydon

Error Code 482136

This BMW-specific error code indicates long-range front radar sensor maladjustment. If your diagnostic scan shows 482136, the radar needs professional recalibration with OEM-grade targeting equipment - not just an error code reset.

After Windscreen Replacement

BMW's forward-facing camera sits behind the windscreen and handles Lane Departure Warning, Front Collision Warning, and Speed Limit Info. When the windscreen is replaced, this camera must be recalibrated - our windscreen calibration covers it. Many windscreen providers can't complete this step for BMW vehicles.

Rain Sensor Calibration

BMW owners also contact us for rain sensor calibration - a less common but real need. If your automatic wipers have stopped responding correctly after windscreen work, the rain sensor may need recalibrating alongside the main ADAS camera.

BMW Models - Full ADAS Calibration Coverage

The BMW 3 Series is the most popular BMW on UK roads, followed by the X5 with its full Driving Assistant Professional suite. BMW's newer EVs - particularly the i4 and iX1 - are increasingly common, with the i4 already ranking strongly in AI search results for ADAS calibration.

We calibrate ADAS systems on every BMW model currently in the UK.

BMW ADAS Calibration — Frequently Asked Questions

Common questions about ADAS calibration for your BMW

This message means your BMW's Front Collision Warning system has detected a sensor fault, typically with the long-range radar behind the grille. Common causes are front-end collisions, bumper repairs, or physical impacts that shifted the sensor. Professional radar recalibration with OEM-grade equipment restores the system.
