Fiat 500 ADAS Calibration

The Fiat 500 is one of the UK's most popular city cars – and most owners have no idea it carries an automatic emergency braking system. From the 2016 facelift onwards, City Brake Control (CBC) uses a laser sensor in the lower windscreen area to prevent low-speed collisions. It won Euro NCAP's Advanced award in 2013, and it still needs recalibration after windscreen work – even on a car this small.

ADAS Systems on Your Fiat 500

The ICE Fiat 500 (2007–2024) carries minimal ADAS compared to the 500e:

Pre-2016 models:

  • No ADAS systems fitted. No calibration required.

2016+ facelift models:

  • City Brake Control (CBC) – Low-speed automatic emergency braking using a laser sensor mounted in the lower windscreen area. Activates below 30 km/h to reduce urban collisions.
  • Speed limiter – basic, no camera dependency

The laser sensor sits lower on the windscreen than the camera-based systems found on the 500e and 600e. This is important because many windscreen fitters expect a camera behind the rearview mirror – on the 500, the sensor is in a different position entirely.

When Your Fiat 500 Needs Calibration

After Windscreen Replacement

The CBC laser sensor is bonded to the windscreen glass. When the glass is replaced, the sensor must be recalibrated to ensure it detects vehicles accurately at low speeds. Many Fiat 500 owners are told their car "doesn't have ADAS" by windscreen companies – if your 500 is a 2016 or later model, it does.

Dashboard Warning After a Minor Bump

City Brake Control can lose calibration from front-end impacts that don't visibly damage the windscreen. If the CBC warning light appears on your dashboard after a car park bump or minor contact, the laser sensor alignment has shifted.

Fiat 500 Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349
Collision Calibration£349
Full System Reset£499

Most Fiat 500 calibrations after windscreen replacement are our £199 fixed rate – the CBC laser sensor needs realignment to restore low-speed braking accuracy. No hidden fees, includes a diagnostic scan.

Fiat 500 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Fiat 500

If your Fiat 500 is a 2016 facelift or newer, it has City Brake Control — Fiat's laser-based automatic emergency braking. Pre-2016 models do not have ADAS systems. The easiest way to check: if your 500 has a CBC warning light on the dashboard cluster, it has the system fitted.
