ADAS Systems on Your Fiat 500e

The 500e (2020+) sits on a dedicated BEV platform built at Mirafiori, Turin – it does not share the old ICE 500's architecture or its basic laser-based City Brake Control. The 500e's ADAS suite is significantly more advanced:

  • Intelligent Adaptive Cruise Control (iACC) – Camera and radar-based adaptive cruise that maintains speed, distance, and lane position. Standard on higher trims.
  • Lane Centering (LC) – Active steering that keeps the 500e centred in its lane, working alongside iACC for Level 2 semi-autonomous driving.
  • Autonomous Emergency Braking (AEB) – High-speed AEB with pedestrian and cyclist detection via the forward-facing camera.
  • Intelligent Speed Assistant (ISA) – Camera-based speed limit recognition, mandatory on new UK cars from July 2024.
  • Urban Blind Spot – Detects vehicles and cyclists in adjacent lanes using rear sensors.
  • Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – Reads road signs and feeds data to ISA and the instrument cluster.

The forward-facing camera is mounted behind the interior rearview mirror – the same position used on the 600e but on a completely different platform.

Common Issues With Fiat 500e ADAS

Windscreen Replacement – Four Systems at Once

The 500e's single forward camera powers iACC, Lane Centering, AEB, and ISA. After a windscreen replacement, all four systems lose calibration simultaneously. Your windscreen fitter replaces the glass but cannot recalibrate the Fiat-specific camera – that's our £199 Windscreen Calibration service.

Level 2 Driving Stops Working

If your 500e no longer holds its lane or adjusts speed automatically on the motorway, the camera alignment has likely drifted. This can happen after windscreen work, a stone chip repair near the camera area, or even prolonged exposure to extreme heat affecting the camera mounting adhesive.

ISA Speed Warnings Become Inaccurate

Intelligent Speed Assistant reads speed limit signs through the same camera. If ISA shows incorrect limits or stops functioning, the camera needs recalibration – the same procedure that restores all other camera-dependent systems.

No. The 500e uses a dedicated Fiat BEV platform, not the Stellantis CMP platform. Its ADAS hardware is specific to this model. The Fiat 600e does share eCMP2 with Peugeot and Vauxhall, but the 500e stands alone.
