Ford B-MAX ADAS Calibration

Ford stopped building the B-MAX in 2017, but this pillarless small MPV remains a popular family runabout on UK roads. Its sliding rear doors and compact footprint made it a city favourite – and city driving means regular windscreen chips and low-speed bumps that can knock the camera-based ADAS out of alignment. If your B-MAX is showing Pre-Collision Assist warnings after a repair, the windscreen camera needs recalibrating.

ADAS Systems on the Ford B-MAX

The B-MAX (2012-2017) was an early adopter of Ford's ADAS features, though with a simpler configuration than current models:

  • Pre-Collision Assist – camera-based automatic emergency braking on higher trims (Titanium, Titanium X). The forward camera sits behind the windscreen near the rearview mirror. No front-mounted radar – AEB range is shorter than on radar-equipped Fords.
  • Lane-Keeping Alert – windscreen camera monitors lane markings and provides steering wheel vibration warnings. Alert-only – no active steering correction.
  • Rear Parking Sensors – ultrasonic sensors in the rear bumper. Standard on most trims.
  • Rear View Camera – available on higher specifications.

The B-MAX predates Ford's Co-Pilot360 branding. Its ADAS is entirely camera-based for forward safety functions, making windscreen calibration the primary service B-MAX owners need. Unlike the Ford Focus Mk4 or Ford Kuga, there is no grille-mounted radar to worry about after bumper work.

Common B-MAX ADAS Triggers

After windscreen replacement

The B-MAX's Pre-Collision Assist and Lane-Keeping Alert both depend on the windscreen camera. Stone chips are common on a car used primarily for city and suburban driving, and every glass replacement means these systems go offline until the camera is recalibrated. Most windscreen fitters can replace the glass but can't handle the calibration step.

After ageing-related repairs

As a discontinued model, B-MAX repairs increasingly involve sourced parts and general body shops rather than Ford dealers. If a repair displaced the camera mounting or disturbed the windscreen seal area, ADAS warnings can appear even when the windscreen itself wasn't replaced. Our ADAS guide explains when calibration is needed after non-obvious repairs.

Rear sensor issues after bumper work

The B-MAX's sliding rear doors leave the rear bumper as the main impact zone for parking incidents. If parking sensor readings become erratic after a rear bumper repair or respray, the ultrasonic sensors likely need recalibrating.

Ford B-MAX ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Ford B-MAX

Higher-spec B-MAX models (Titanium, Titanium X) from 2012-2017 have Pre-Collision Assist and Lane-Keeping Alert — both camera-based systems that need recalibration after windscreen replacement. Base models may only have parking sensors. Tell us your year and trim and we'll confirm what your B-MAX has.
