Honda Civic ADAS Calibration

The Honda Civic is our most-calibrated Honda model – six times more calibration requests than any other Honda we service. Most Civic owners contact us after a bumper repair has displaced the millimeter wave radar behind the front grille, triggering error code P2583-76 and disabling Adaptive Cruise Control and Collision Mitigation Braking.

Honda SENSING on the Civic – By Generation

The Honda Civic has carried Honda SENSING across two recent generations, but the system configuration differs:

10th Generation Civic (2015–2021, FC/FK chassis): Honda SENSING standard on most UK trims from 2017. The millimeter wave radar sits behind the lower front grille, and the monocular camera mounts behind the windscreen. Systems include ACC, CMBS, LKAS, and Road Departure Mitigation (RDM). The 10th-gen's lower grille radar is particularly vulnerable to bumper repair displacement – the radar sits directly behind removable bodywork.

11th Generation Civic (2022+, FL chassis): Updated Honda SENSING with a wider-angle camera and improved object recognition. Radar remains behind the front grille. BSI (Blind Spot Information) replaces the older LaneWatch mirror camera on higher trims. The wider camera unit requires recalibration more frequently after windscreen replacement.

Why Your Honda Civic Might Need ADAS Calibration

Bumper Repair and Radar Displacement

The Civic's millimeter wave radar sits behind the front grille – directly behind the bumper. Any front-end work that involves removing or refitting the bumper can shift the radar position by millimetres. That's enough to trigger DTC P2583-76, which reads "Misalignment Millimeter Wave Radar" on diagnostic scanners. Your ACC stops working, CMBS deactivates, and the dashboard lights up with driver support system warnings.

One Civic owner from Yorkshire came to us with both systems flagged simultaneously – the radar aiming and the static camera aiming both incomplete after front-end work. That's a two-part calibration job: radar realignment plus camera recalibration in a single appointment.

Windscreen Replacement

LKAS and Road Departure Mitigation rely on the windscreen-mounted camera. After windscreen replacement, this camera needs static recalibration. When both the camera and radar need attention – as often happens after collision repair – specialist equipment is required for the radar side.

Cat S/N Civic Purchases

The Civic is one of the most common Cat S/N vehicles in the UK. Buyers who've repaired front-end damage often find the ADAS systems weren't recalibrated during the rebuild. If your purchased Civic's cruise control doesn't work or CMBS warnings persist, the radar needs professional calibration. The Jazz and CR-V share the same Honda SENSING architecture – the calibration process is identical across the range.

Honda Civic ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Honda Civic

P2583-76 indicates "Misalignment Millimeter Wave Radar" — the front radar behind your Civic's grille is physically out of alignment. This code appears after bumper repair, collision, or sensor replacement. Our technicians perform static radar aiming with OEM-grade equipment to restore the sensor to manufacturer specification and permanently clear the DTC.
