Kia Sorento ADAS Calibration

You've had the front bumper repaired on your 2021 Sorento and now Smart Cruise Control won't engage. The radar sensor sits behind the Kia emblem on the front bumper – any work in that area shifts it out of alignment. Kia Sorento ADAS calibration restores your DriveWise systems to manufacturer specification, starting from £199.

DriveWise Systems on the Kia Sorento

The Sorento (fourth generation, 2020+) comes with the full Kia DriveWise suite as standard across most trim levels. Earlier third-generation models (2015–2020) offered a smaller set of driver assistance features, with some systems restricted to higher trims.

Current Sorento (2020+):

  • Smart Cruise Control (SCC) with Stop & Go – radar-based adaptive cruise. The radar sensor is mounted behind the front bumper emblem. Bumper removal or front-end repair requires recalibration.
  • Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist (FCA) – Kia's automatic emergency braking. Uses both the front radar and the windscreen-mounted camera. Detects vehicles, pedestrians, and cyclists.
  • Lane Following Assist (LFA) – active lane centring that combines camera and radar data. Goes beyond basic lane keeping by steering the vehicle within the lane.
  • Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist (BCA) – rear-mounted radar sensors in both rear quarter panels. Active intervention – can brake or steer to avoid a blind-spot collision.
  • Navigation-based Smart Cruise Control (NSCC) – adjusts speed for curves and speed limits using GPS data, relying on calibrated radar for distance measurement.

The Sorento's size means it carries the full sensor suite: front radar behind the bumper emblem, forward-facing camera behind the windscreen, and rear radar sensors in the quarter panels. Three distinct calibration points if multiple systems are affected. The Sportage and EV6 share a similar layout, though with platform-specific differences in sensor integration.

Why Your Kia Sorento Might Need Calibration

After bumper or front-end repair

The Sorento's front radar sits behind the Kia badge on the bumper. Even minor bumper work – a replacement panel, a respray after a parking scrape, or a front-end collision repair – can move the radar enough to disable Smart Cruise Control and FCA. This is the most common calibration trigger we see for the Sorento.

After windscreen replacement

The forward-facing camera behind the windscreen controls Lane Following Assist and contributes to FCA. If your windscreen company replaced the glass but couldn't complete the camera calibration, we handle it at any of our 70+ workshops. Read more about ADAS after windscreen replacement.

Protecting your Kia 7-year warranty

Kia's industry-leading warranty covers DriveWise components – but calibration after a repair is part of maintaining that coverage. A Sorento owner contacted us specifically about radar setup costs after a repair, wanting it done properly to keep everything in order.

Kia Sorento ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Kia Sorento

Yes. The Sorento has three calibration zones: front radar behind the bumper emblem, forward camera behind the windscreen, and rear radar in both quarter panels for Blind-Spot Collision-Avoidance Assist. Which sensors need calibration depends on what repair was done.
