How many Polestar 1s are on UK roads?

Polestar 1 ADAS Calibration

The Polestar 1 was a plug-in hybrid grand tourer built on Volvo's SPA platform – the same architecture as the S90 and XC90. Only 1,500 were produced worldwide between 2019 and 2021, making it one of the rarest cars we calibrate. Its Pilot Assist system, Collision Avoidance, and BLIS all use Volvo-derived sensor hardware that our technicians work with daily.

ADAS Systems on Your Polestar 1

The Polestar 1 sits on the SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform – a generation older than the SPA2 used in the Polestar 3. Its ADAS suite includes:

Pilot Assist – combines ACC with steering assistance to maintain lane position and following distance, functional up to 130 km/h
Collision Avoidance by City Safety – Volvo-derived AEB detecting vehicles, pedestrians, cyclists, and large animals
Blind Spot Information System (BLIS) – monitors adjacent lanes using side-facing radar sensors
Cross Traffic Alert (CTA) – detects approaching vehicles when reversing
Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) – corrective steering input when drifting without indicating
Road Sign Information (RSI) – camera-based speed limit recognition

The forward-facing camera is mounted behind the windscreen at the rear-view mirror position. The front radar sits behind the bumper. These are the same sensor positions as the Volvo S90 – proven calibration procedures apply directly.

After Bumper or Front-End Repair

The front radar behind the bumper drives ACC and Collision Avoidance. The Polestar 1's carbon fibre body construction means bumper repairs often involve specialist materials – and any removal or refitting of the front section shifts the radar. If Pilot Assist stopped engaging after bodywork, radar recalibration restores it.
