ADAS Systems on the Renault Trafic

The Trafic is Renault's mid-size van – positioned between the Kangoo and Master. Its ADAS suite grew with the 2019 facelift and expanded further with the 2021 update:

2021+ Trafic (latest update):

• Active Emergency Braking (AEB) – front radar behind the bumper, standard. Detects vehicles and pedestrians at urban and motorway speeds.
• Lane Departure Warning (LDW) – windscreen-mounted camera, standard on most trims.
• Blind Spot Warning (BSW) – rear-quarter sensors on Sport and SpaceClass trims. Essential for a mid-size van with limited side visibility.
• Traffic Sign Recognition (TSR) – camera-based, paired with the instrument cluster.
• Rear Cross Traffic Alert (RCTA) – rear sensors for reversing, available on higher specifications.

2019–2021 facelift Trafic:

• AEB – standard on Business+ and above.
• LDW – available on mid-range and higher trims.
• BSW and TSR not available on this generation.

Pre-2019 Trafic:

• Rear parking sensors only. No ADAS calibration needed after repairs.

Common Calibration Triggers for the Trafic

After front bumper repairs – the Trafic's front end is its most vulnerable point in commercial use. Delivery runs, tight car parks, and urban manoeuvring generate the kind of low-speed contacts that shift the radar sensor behind the bumper. AEB stops working, and the dashboard displays a permanent warning. This is the single most common reason Trafic owners contact us – and it's a straightforward £349 radar calibration.

After windscreen replacement – mid-size vans accumulate windscreen damage faster than cars due to higher motorway mileage and exposure to road debris. On 2019+ Trafics, windscreen replacement requires camera recalibration for LDW and TSR. The windscreen fitter replaces the glass – we handle the ADAS side at £199.

After side or rear repairs – Trafics with BSW and RCTA (2021+ higher trims) need rear sensor verification after any rear-quarter bodywork. A misaligned Blind Spot Warning on a van with genuinely large blind spots is worse than no system at all – it creates false confidence.
