ADAS Systems on the Volkswagen Tayron

The Tayron (2024+) launches on VW's MQB-Evo platform – the same architecture underpinning the latest Passat and Tiguan, but the Tayron's longer wheelbase adds sensor considerations unique to its body.

• Front Assist with Turning and Oncoming Vehicle Detection – next-generation AEB using the front radar behind the VW grille badge. Detects crossing vehicles at junctions – a step beyond the standard Front Assist on the Tiguan.
• ACC Pro – upgraded adaptive cruise with predictive speed adjustment using navigation data and traffic sign recognition.
• Travel Assist – semi-automated motorway driving combining ACC Pro and Lane Assist. Standard on higher trims.
• Lane Assist – windscreen camera for lane departure correction and lane centring.
• Side Assist Plus – rear radar for blind spot monitoring with active steering intervention on higher trims.
• Park Assist Pro with Memory – automated parking using ultrasonic sensors and surround-view cameras.
• Emergency Assist – driver incapacitation detection with controlled stop.
• Exit Warning – alerts passengers opening doors into passing traffic. Uses Side Assist radar.

Seven-seat note: The Tayron's extended rear overhang positions the rear parking sensors and Side Assist radar further back than on the five-seat Tiguan. Body shops familiar with the Tiguan may not account for this difference when fitting rear panels.

When Your VW Tayron Needs Calibration

After Front-End Collision or Bumper Repair

The Tayron's front radar sits behind the VW badge on the grille – the same location as the Golf, Tiguan, and Passat. Any bumper removal, front-end repair, or grille replacement shifts this sensor, deactivating ACC Pro, Front Assist, and Travel Assist. The Tayron's SUV height positions the radar higher than on VW's saloons, changing the impact vulnerability profile – parking bollards and low walls are common culprits.

After Windscreen Replacement

Travel Assist, Lane Assist, Front Assist (camera element), and Traffic Sign Recognition all depend on the windscreen camera. The Tayron's large SUV windscreen is a frequent stone chip target on motorways. After replacement, camera calibration at £199 is mandatory – and most glass companies cannot complete it.

After Tow Bar Fitting or Rear Bodywork

The Tayron is designed for towing, and many owners fit aftermarket tow bars. This work can disturb the rear parking sensors and Side Assist radar. If your Tayron's blind spot warnings or parking assistance stopped working after tow bar installation, the rear sensors need recalibration.
