Volvo XC60 ADAS Calibration

Pilot Assist comes standard on the Volvo XC60 from 2017 onward – meaning every second-generation XC60 on UK roads has a semi-autonomous driving system that depends on both front radar and windscreen camera working in precise alignment. If either sensor is disturbed by a repair or replacement, Pilot Assist and several other IntelliSafe features shut down until recalibrated.

ADAS Systems on the Volvo XC60

The second-generation XC60 (2017+) is built on Volvo's SPA (Scalable Product Architecture) platform – the same underpinning as the flagship XC90 – and carries one of the most comprehensive ADAS suites in the mid-size SUV segment:

  • City Safety with steering support – Volvo's AEB system on the XC60 adds automatic steering intervention at higher speeds, not just braking. Uses both front radar and camera.
  • Pilot Assist – standard from R-Design trim onward (2017+). Level 2 semi-autonomous driving combining ACC with active lane centring. Requires both radar and camera to be calibrated simultaneously.
  • Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC) – front radar behind the lower grille. The XC60's radar module is integrated into the bumper – any front-end body repair affects it.
  • Lane Keeping Aid (LKA) – windscreen-mounted camera. Disabled after windscreen replacement until recalibrated.
  • BLIS with Steer Assist – rear radar sensors in the bumper corners. On the XC60, BLIS includes active steering that nudges the vehicle away from detected hazards in adjacent lanes.
  • Cross Traffic Alert with Auto Brake – same rear sensors as BLIS. Detects approaching traffic when reversing from a parking space.
  • Run-off Road Mitigation – camera-based system unique to Volvo. Steers the XC60 back onto the road if an unintended lane departure is detected.

Common ADAS Triggers on the Volvo XC60

Bumper repair and Pilot Assist failure: The XC60's front radar module is integrated into the lower bumper assembly. A bumper replacement, front-end collision repair, or even a grille removal for cosmetic work can shift the radar enough to disable both City Safety and Pilot Assist. The dashboard will flag automatic braking and cruise control as unavailable – both depend on the same radar sensor.

Windscreen replacement and multi-system shutdown: Because the XC60 routes Pilot Assist, LKA, Run-off Road Mitigation, and Traffic Sign Recognition through the windscreen camera, a single windscreen swap disables four IntelliSafe features at once. The camera needs recalibration in a controlled workshop environment – not a car park adjustment.

If your XC60 has had both front bumper and windscreen work – common after a frontal collision – you may need both radar and camera calibrated. Our collision calibration covers multi-sensor realignment.

Volvo XC60 Calibration Pricing

ServicePrice
Windscreen Calibration£199
Radar/Sensor Calibration£349

Volvo XC60 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the Volvo XC60

Pilot Assist relies on the front radar sensor housed in the bumper assembly. Any bumper replacement — whether from collision repair or cosmetic work — displaces this sensor. Pilot Assist, City Safety, and ACC will all show as unavailable on your dashboard until the radar is professionally recalibrated.
