BMW iX3 ADAS Calibration

Active Cruise Control on your BMW iX3 has stopped working after a front bumper repair – but the bodywork looks perfect. The iX3 shares its CLAR platform and ADAS hardware with the combustion X3, placing the front radar behind the kidney grille and the forward camera behind the windscreen. When either is disturbed, Driving Assistant Professional disables until both sensors are professionally recalibrated.

ADAS Systems on the BMW iX3

The iX3 (G08, 2020–2023) is the electric version of BMW's mid-size SUV. It shares the same sensor positions and ADAS packages as the combustion X3:

  • Driving Assistant (standard) – Front Collision Warning, Automatic Emergency Braking, and Lane Departure Warning via forward camera and front radar.
  • Driving Assistant Professional (optional, common on Premier Edition and M Sport) – adds Active Cruise Control with Stop & Go, Lane Change Assistant, and Highway Assistant.
  • Parking Assistant Plus – ultrasonic sensors and automated parallel/perpendicular parking.
  • Surround View (optional) – four cameras for bird's-eye parking guidance.
  • Speed Limit Info – camera-based sign recognition, standard across all trims.

The front radar sits behind the traditional kidney grille – not a closed panel like the iX or i4. This means the iX3's radar is exposed through the grille slats, making it vulnerable to stone chips and debris but also easier to access during calibration. The forward camera mounts behind the windscreen in the standard BMW position.

Why Your BMW iX3 Might Need ADAS Calibration

After Bumper or Grille Repair

The iX3's kidney grille houses the front radar sensor. Body shops removing the bumper for repair, paintwork, or grille replacement displace the radar alignment. This is the most common trigger for ACC and Front Collision Warning faults on the iX3. Radar calibration realigns the sensor to BMW's specifications.

After Windscreen Replacement

The forward camera behind the windscreen controls Lane Departure Warning, Speed Limit Info, and feeds data to Highway Assistant. After windscreen replacement, static calibration is required – the same procedure used across all CLAR-platform BMWs including the 5 Series and X5.

Cat S or Cat N Purchase

The iX3's value makes it a common target in the Cat S/N market. If you've purchased a previously damaged iX3, ADAS systems may have been left uncalibrated during the repair. A full system reset verifies every sensor is aligned and functional. See our Cat S ADAS guide for what to check.

BMW iX3 ADAS Calibration — FAQ

Common questions about calibrating ADAS systems on the BMW iX3

Yes. The iX3 and combustion X3 share the CLAR platform and identical ADAS sensor hardware. Radar, camera, and ultrasonic sensor positions are the same. Calibration procedures and pricing are identical — the electric drivetrain doesn't affect sensor calibration.
